Hello All,

I just took my 2006 to the dealership to have the timing chain whine issue "officially" diagnosed. Thanks to you all, I am 95% sure that is what the noise I have been hearing is. Up until now, this is the only problem I have had with my Fronty and I have 83K miles on it (of which I did all but 6 myself )

I am curious how many other people have gotten some or all of the repair cost good-willed by Nissan NA? I'm really crossing my fingers that they can help me out with this or I may have to play the single mother card and turn on the tears.

Just turned 40K today, had been whining for a while. Last time I brought it to Nissan to have an ear put to it I was told it was nothing. Saturday when I did the same thing I was told it WAS the timing chain (mild to moderate) and that it would be no problem. Leave it for 3 days, all under warranty. I forgot what the engine sounds like without the S/C whine...

I think mine is starting to whine now as well. I'm at about 43k. Glad to hear yours was done under warranty at 40k. Does anyone know that if they do fix it, if there are updated parts? Or can we expect to have to do this every 40-50k miles? I sure hope not.

the chains were the problem. some of the timing chains made here in the US were made with poor finishing leaving rough edges on them which ate through the tensioner guides prematurely. they have become pretty strict on the quality of chains that come from the supplier to prevent this from being a problem again. so again at 40-50k shouldn't happen, 100k+ will be more like it

My Pathfinder was fixed 14 months ago and is fine so I'm sure it's fixed for good. Nissan doesn't want to repair it again either.

are there any particular build dates on some of these timeing chain problems,
my 06 has 45000 miles, could there be relavance or a possable clue to the batch of chains involved,or is this an on going problem thru all years.it seems
mostly 05 06 i have been reading about here.then it depends on the dealers(some guys get a bs story)/warrenty coverage????

i havent seen any rhyme or reason to who can go 100k no problem and who gets it to whine at 30k. i got my 2006 to last until just under 80k. just had it done this weekend with the help of a fellow CF'er. not a fun way to spend the cash.

just had my chains, guides and tensioners replaced a week ago. 2005 nismo jan. build date has 90000 miles. mechanic showed be the guides and only one was worn to the metal, the others didnt look to bad. he said the new guides were definatly a differant design and should last. we will see! said it was a pain in the @#$ and hoped hed never have to do it again!
