I'm posting this to hopefully warn others about the issue which I didn't know anything about myself until reading up on the clubfrontier forum last week. I've been hearing a turbo-like whine which changes pitch in harmony with the revs in my 2007 crew cab. As forum veterans will already know, this is indicative of the infamous secondary timing chain tensioner issue. My truck is under extended warranty, so it's only costing me $50, but I've been without it for two days so far and it's a pain in the ***. If I didn't have the supplemental warranty, I'd be shitting bricks right about now, and I encourage anyone in that situation to phone Nissan directly and scream his/her head off until those scumbags cover what is clearly a KNOWN issue.

On a positive note, the rental company gave me a 2010 Ford F150 crew cab as a loaner - while it's not as quick off the line as my Frontier, I infinitely prefer it (and I've been vehemently anti-Ford for years). As far as I'm concerned, Nissan can keep that piece of crap and I'll take the Ford. (Oh, how the mighty have fallen).

I understand your pain, I drive an '08 GMT900 Silverado daily these days while my Frontier just sits collecting dust in the driveway. My Frontier has 43K on the clock and hasn't had the chain-tensioner issue but has had both motor mounts replaced, the horn, etc... Again while my Silverado is not as quick feeling as my Frontier it is a whole lot more comfortable to drive and gets equal to slightly better mileage than my V6 Frontier, not to mension there is nothing on the GM forums the goes out or breaks on those trucks and that helps me sleep tight at night. Personally the chain-tensoner issue is unexceptionable in a vehicle proclaimed to be superior to rivaling brands and domestics. My company has put over 200K miles on Chevy's & Fords with only routine maintenance to deal with, brakes, fluids, batteries etc.. but to have to go into the motor for a major repair at 30-60 or even 90K miles is ridiculous to ask of your customer.

Have fun, I'm only specifically talking about the GMT900 series '07-'10 as I'm not talking smack about the Gen 1 Frontier, but we can if you really want to go there.

Me? Emotional? Nahhh, cool as a cucumber. Nissan used to be considered a practical and reliable import - to this day, I still occasionally see a vintage 80's Maxima on the road burning more oil than a Kuwaiti wildfire but still running.

I would never actually *buy* a Ford, I was just blowing off steam - I'd definitely strongly consider a Chevy, but that's because (like Pool Runner) I've had good luck with them in the past. In reality, the Ford I drove was underpowered, especially compared to torque on the V6 Frontiers. I just wish they were more reliable, like Nissans used to be.

I have had ford and chevy all new and both in my area had service second to none and gave free lonner cars. I got the frontier because of looks and the size so far nock on wood i havent had a real issue but!!!! I sure worry about the things that are brought up in here!!! And i'am thankful I had the dealer do the lift kit by revtek and its under my extended warrenty .If nissan dont do people right by the timing chain and the diffs i will be buying an older jeep the next time and put the good stuff on it or a 1/2 ton american Truck!!! Just my 2 cents worth

Sorry to hear that bro, at least its getting fixed. I heard this whining nose also. Only once when it was cold outside and after that I never heard it again. I am wondering If I have the same issue...

It's worth the diagnostic fee to get it checked out anyway if you're around 60k on your truck. I've attached the TSB in case the mechanic doesn't have access to it.

I also heard this whining noise and again it was during cold weather. Other than that, no problems with my 07 LB Frontier.
