I have an 04 CC with 80,000 miles, about 3/4 of that highway miles. Lately my throwout bearings has been squealing. This seems awfully soon for a throwout bearing failure. Has anyone else had one go bad so soon?

The TOB on my '01sc has been squeeling for the last 120,000 miles, at least. I've got 165K on it now. It's worse in cold weather. I usually hear it when it's under load in 1st and 2nd gear, but sometimes when I'm cruisin' in 5th. Just waitin' for it to go so I can upgrade the clutch. I know it's my TOB because I can always make the squeel go away when I take the slack out of the clutch petal. I've also read it might have something to do w/a cracked flywheel. I'll find out one day I'm sure.

How do you know it is the TO bearing?
The noise only happens when there is pressure on the clutch pedal. I can often get the noise to go away by re-engaging the clutch. It doesn't always make the noise, and it seems to be worse when cold, but not always.

I would entertain ideas of other things to look for.
