I have some freeplay in the steering wheel and was thinking maybe it's the dogbone but then I was looking at the pitman arm I see some power steering fluid seeping out. Looks like a bad seal in the gearbox. Would replacing the seal help or should I get a junkyard box for $85? I can get a reman'd gearbox for $231 + $100 core.

Well, my mechanic buddy looked at my box. There's wear in the worm gear and a leaking seal. Probably will go with reman box for $230 unless a junkyard $100 one sounds like it's worth the risk.

Check your center link and TREs, the center link will give you the most slop in the wheel as well as a bang when you hit bumps. The center link and the TREs can all be purchased at NAPA for a resonable amount.

Yea the leak is just the begining, even if you keep it full it will fail. Mine has been leaking for 100,000 miles and now it is starting to fail and I keep it full. Steering starts to get stiff then it progresses to being a little jerky at slow rpms.
