Hello all,

I've noticed a couple things on my 05 Nissan Frontier Nismo this past winter. My truck would take a super long time to warm up and its seemed the heat wouldn't start working until the truck was moving more then 30mph. But once it was warmed up it stayed warm. I also noticed that my temperature gauge on my truck was always reading the same no matter what. Its always stuck in the middle and does not fluctuate whatsoever.

do you think I need to replace my Thermostat for this issue? Could it be the temperature sensor? I'm thinking about just replacing the Thermostat just because the part isn't that expensive, however, I wasn't sure if I should be getting the t-stat that opens at 170 or 180. Will this make a huge difference? The t-stat I'm looking at is Beck and Arnley which opens at 180 apparently.

Does anyone have any insight on my issue? Thanks in advance!

Slow down, before you start firing the parts cannon at the vehicle, let's review. Have you removed the radiator cap to check the level, sounds like it's low and therefore has a large air bubble in it? The temp gauge once at operating temp doesn't move, unless the vehicle experiences an over heating situation. So in that regard your t-stat should be fine. When was the last time you did a drain and fill?

So, I've been closely watching my temperature gauge the last few days and I've confirmed it starts at Cold and does move up to about half way when warmed up. I feel like my thermostat is working correctly.

I did have to change my oil cooler seal about 6 months ago and at that time I did replace half of my coolant. I'll try to burp the air bubbles out soon but won't really know more until winter again. Thanks for the reply yesterdayradios

Also, the coolant level is checked with the engine cold and running. if the engine is off and you look at the coolant reservoir, it will look full but it is actually under filled.

Pop the hood with the engine off, look at the reservoir and then start the engine and look again. You will see what I mean. If it is indeed low, add some, go park on a steep hill with the engine running and turn the heat on full hot for a minute or two. you might need to do this twice in order to get it at the correct level.
