well its been a long time since ive been on and i appologize for that, ive been real busy with tech school and work, but i have been working on my x in my spare time, i got a new bb t4 garret turbo, redid my exhaust, chargepipe and ordered a meth kit for it. however about an hour ago i ran into the inevitable, i gave it full throttle at about 50 to 80 when i heard a weird noise, i got out of it and the motor was shaking real hard, so i limped it home, took out spark plug # 1 and saw what my piston did to it. it was smashed, i heard that can be from rod knock, so i quess thats what it is lol, i need to evaluate my opions here, should i go ahead and build the vq? or take off the turbo system make it stock and get a z? and turbo it?

i knew it was only a matter of time before the motor blew, so now let this be a lesson to you all ha the vq can handle 500 hp, but only for about 6 months depending on how you treat it lol

it was going to happen eventually running 6psi+. The stock VQ's just can't take it. I'd say get a Z dude. There's more support for doing what you like to do

yes hell hes prolly to the point of giving it away now lmao

all bs aside tho, id get a z man. but its your choice in the end :) but you do have all the work done with the X so if you do rebuild it i dont think your going wrong in any direction

well tahnks for the input so far, ive been thinking about it alot, i found a vq40 for about $990.00 not to bad, i have some cp pistons and pualer rodsmade for it and for 3000 dollars i got a motor that i can hae some fun with, not that i didnt before, but now ill feel safe with it, i think with lowering the compression to 9:0 and run it to 13 lbs with the addition of meth injecton im looking about 500 whp with a conservitive tune. alot of work? yeah but i dont have a girl or kids so i have to do give my attention to something right? maybe a z will be down the road perhaps. oh yeah i might have to send my trans to ipt for a new overhall. my fastest run with the stock motor was 12.96. i am happy as all hell, but i would be even happyer if i could get it into the evelens after this. alot of people build z's and make them all out. but as far as i know i have the fastests x. i like the sound of that and it suites my personality well hahah

I'd stick with the x man! Everyone assumes a z is fast. How many turbo hondas and other ricers will expect to be smashed by an xterra? Not many... You have something not many other people have (if any). Think about how many other turbod z are out there. Eiher way though, like everyone said, it's your decision in the end. Keep us poste though! I'm sure it'll be sick either way!

I agree 959 - stay with your Xterra. Very unique and I'm sure its a blast to drive. Well that is when its running. Sorry about that, but at least you were sorta expecting it. But I'm sure it hurt when actually did.

so today i found a long block for 1600 and it has 2600 miles on it. cant beat that right? its bearly even broken in ha. so i figure with another 2000 invested in rods and pistons along with a nice balance and head job, ill have myself a motor capable of 11s, the trans, another story, i need to find myslef a broken 5 speed and send it to ipt.

Going to the Z would be the easy route but the X is the fun route. The used motor that you found is probably the key to your problems. I just wonder thou, does it matter how many miles are on it? If you are going to replace the internals anyway for the most part and have it machined, as long as it has less then 50k you should be fine.

I have to question the IPT rebuilt plans thou. Toomanymods had his built by IPT and it was toast in no time flat. The reports were that they used what looked like OEM style replacement parts not their famed race ready parts. It may be better to go with an TransGo kit or a Level10 rebuild and have it done local if possible. This way you know what it going into it.

yea build the VQ and stick with the X. go with some good pistons and rods. also, i would put in lower compression pistons with the plans of boosting it.

well i did alot of studing and calling around today and here are rwo opions i have, feel free to add a sugestion and im still in the air as of what im gunna do/ i buy the used longblock from the junkyard, buy the cp pistons and pualer rods and take it down to a machine shop where they bore it to a 4.3 assemble the shortblock and do the rest, or i have chris at engine logics go ahead and and build me a short block capable of 850whp, and i do the rest, keep my heads and everything else.
