After a week of waiting for them to call back, I had the pleasure of recieving a call from Nissan Canada. Apparently, a faulty wiring harness is only good for one year and 20k, but they will still pay half of the bill.

I had some evap codes apppearing lately, and one dealer replaced the canister and then blamed any other problems on my body lift. A week later, I got more evap codes, and after many BS stories from the previous dealer, I went elsewhere for another opinion. Well...

Turns out there was nothing wrong with anything with my evap system, but the wiring harness inside of my ECU had started to crumble. The wires were literally falling apart on their own, inside of the closed ECU. There were actually over 20 codes being thrown. I had asked the dealer for pics of this work prior to anything done, yet they refused. Turns out the ECU is covered under warranty (I have extended warranty) but if it was wiring - well, that's not covered.

At the end of the day, they confirmed my body lift had nothing to do with the problem, they confirmed no one had been inside of the ECU, but the ground and secveral other wires had freyed inside of the enclosed ECU...and therefore, Nissan Canada, though not under warranty, would pay for half of the cost. I've never really ever experienced a harness (let alone inside of the ECU) not outlasting a vehicle. I've rebuilt many cars and reused old harnesses in the past. Think twice if its a Nissan.

I think this is probably the end of the line for me on this truck. I have had several small issues over and over again with this truck, and now if a harness can't make it three years, I really don't know if I want to deal with the headaches afterwards. So much for thinking this truck could be my 10 year investment. 5 years to go...or maybe sooner

Man. That sucks! Once again Nissan with a big fail. I can't believe they will replace the ECU if it's bad, but not if it's the wires that are bad. What a joke. I too bought my truck thinking it would be round for a long while, and now find myself questioning if it will be.
Best of luck with your nissan battle.

I'm going to wait until I get half my money before I go to 'my next step'. The long list of issues and shady dealers has left me certainly looking outside of the Nissan family for my next truck.

Well that's entirely retarded, nothing like dealerships being unwilling to man up, I'm still struggling to get my gas tank fixed. Makes me worried tho I've had some evap codes show up in the winter but I just figured it was minor glitches cuz tr went away on their own

I'd tell Nissan about this forum and the thousands of members who read the posts. Ask them if it's worth it to them to lose potential buyers as well as lose you to the competition? Don't give up too easily.

was told by the dealer they won't give me my $$ unitl Nissan Canada sends them a cheque. I laughed...guess $200 is gonna break the service department. You think they'd be raking it in with warranty work...

This begs te question though; what happened to your wiring harness to make it go completely to the crapper? This is the first time I've heard of that happening, not only on this forum, but in general

i know - and that is the concerning part. the wire was apparently cracked in multiple spots INSIDE the ECU. i have never heard of it, and don't want to test the long-term quality, thats for sure. you should see the fix - they drilled a hole in the side of the ecu and ran a new wire out the side. they tried to put some silicone around it, but there is only a little bit on the top.

AMEN!! Does no one give a crap about customer service anymore? And the way they fixed it. Are you kidding ok lets drill a hole and run a new wire. Sometimes I want to say can you just bring the Tech that did this **** out here so I can ask him if he has a family history of retardation. Or how about his a hole sup. who told him it was ok to do that. I'm still young and I've cut corners when working on cars.... BUT THOSE WERE TEMP FIXES AND THEY WERE MY CARS!! I would never ever think its ok to cut corners on a paying customers vehicle. I dont care if its just adding water to the wiper resivour instead of the windshield cleaner. Do people care to do things properly anymore. This is the exact reason why I thank Jesus that my dad is a mechanic and he taught me at a young age and I went to school for it so I would never have to deal with p.o.s. dealers that just rip loyal well paying customers off all in the name of making more money for doing nothing.:censor::censor::censor:

They charged $400 for a wire replacement? What will half the money do? They can just refuse the other half. Heck, I would have had the part replaced, put it on a credit card then disputed the charge and make them do a charge back.
Usually the consumer wins on that.
