I am going to attempt to install a 2013+ tailgate spoiler cap on my 2006 truck just because my truck is missing the tailgate cap and I like the style. I am following this thread: http://www.clubfrontier.org/forums/...012-frontier-pro-4x-step-step-writeup-105985/ . My question is about the OEM rivet nuts (part number: 97096-9Z320). I am wondering what kind of tool if any is needed to install these as he doesn't mention anything about it in the thread.

These are the rivet nuts in question:

I am thinking they may not work like rivets but instead are just pressed into a drilled hole. I am thinking this because of the hex shape of the holes that they leave behind:

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can look up nutserts on google. Youtube also has lots on them.. The following uses a tool but if you view on youtube there are other manual ways. Your pic doesn't show up but I think this is what you are talking about.

Let us know how it goes. I might do this eventually.

Looks like I'd need to cut notches in the tailgate and overall just looks like a pain to do for such a simple mod. I'm wondering if I can just swap tailgates since mine has some damage anyway.... my 2005 tailgate for a 2013+. Will it fit without issue?

The other potential option is just snipping the tabs off and 3m tape the spoiler to the top of the tailgate. I know with proper prep that 3m stuff is rock solid!!!
