I noticed that my '05 SE CC 4x4 doesn't have the 4x4 emblem next to the SE on the tailgate. Is this common/normal?

I have a 2008 SE. Mine came with one. Which is strange because mine says SE THEN 4x4. Like below.

Yours on the other hand says just SE obviously, but if someone just took out the 4x4, the the SE would be farther to the left.

Not sure what it's worth, but I think it's just a depends on how they felt at the factory thing.

Actually, I think it is more of a model/year thing. For example, my '05 nismo has no badging at all. Some of the later modes have the 4X4.

maybe double check and you dont have 4x4

I had to go look at mine as it's easy to not know for sure until you look.
Mine is the same as H Town but until I looked I'd have no idea which was first.

Some early 2005 SE / LEs did not have the 4x4 badge. Subsequent model years all have it.

Yes I agree. Early SE's did not have the 4 x 4 badge.After customer comments
they started added them in March 05. Mine, produced in 12/04 did not have one.
So, in July of 05, I toured the assembly plant in Tenn. After mentioning it to them,
they sent an employee down the assembly line, and got one and give it to me.
