Hopefully someone can help me since I'm having zero luck for a few days now. Just like title says, I'm looking for a tailgate strut / assist for a 2016 frontier. Anyone I've seen is for 2015 and below. Preferably one where I don't have to drill. Please help if you can, thanks.

Look at the body of a 2005 Frontier. Look at the body of a 2017 Frontier. Do you see any difference? The sheet metal is the same. If it is listed for a 2015, there's no reason it won't work on your 2016. Blame lazy vendors for not updating their sites and or catalogs.

I understand the years are virtually the same. But it is pretty consistent that sites state that it is not compatible with year 2016. I appreciate your response, and hopefully my interpretation of your tone is just that, my interpretation. We're all here to help one another I assume. Thanks again.

If you would, please provide a link to one of these many sites that outright state their part will not work on any other Frontier that is not listed in the year range for the part. Even if there are sites that make the claim that it won't fit, it likely will. This late in the game Nissan is not gonna change tailgate parts.

Check some return policies and buy one. If it doesn't fit, return it.

I've been doing quite a bit of searching myself and A LOT of vendors say things will fit manufacture date range from 2005-2015 when it will actually fit 2016, 2017 as well.

Even Amazon has a tool where you plug in your vehicle and it will tell you if the current part you are looking at will fit or not. Often it says it won't fit but that's because it is going off the description of the part. I have ordered a few things that said they will not fit but they did.

Like yesterdaysradios said, use your best judgement, order the part and if it doesn't fit send it back.

BTW, I have a 2016 so as a general rule if it says it will fit a 2005 or above, I just order it.

P.S. If you are looking for a gas strut so the tailgate doesn't slam, look at this thread. One of the last posts has a link to the part, and the thread starter is offering to make a solution to the flimsy retaining tab. Just PM him and he will send you the new tab for free!

I think that the op has a right to be cautious. I bought a replacement OEM bumper used for my 06. Forget what year this one was, 2010? Looks excitably the same. Was going to pull the cover to replace my dented one. turns out it was redesigned enough that the mounting bolts were different. No biggy swap entire bumpers including the subframe. Go to swap out the license plate light and those too were redesigned. Needed to mod the new bumper to make it fit. Ran the new bumper for 8 months. Then when on a 4 wheeling trip and swapped the old one back on prior. I was so scared of denting my "new" bumper. I seem to feel things when I back up. New bumper sitting in a pile in the back yard.

I had the same concern when I bought my 2016, and all I could find were parts for the 2015 and earlier. Turns out, they're the same. Funny thing is, when I contacted the vendors, they said that it would not work. Basically they were just reading the listing, and not really giving me any reliable info. I actually called Nissan to ask if there were any differences in the 2015 to 2016 models if I was looking to instal grille guards or anything like that, and they said there is no difference. There was a minor facelift from the 2008 to 2009 model I believe, and as a result, the grille guards I bought came with 2 sets of mounting brackets for the different years. But since 2009, I don't think they've made any major changes with the exception of some factory options available.

Most website tools that check compatibility such as on Amazon, just go off the information the vendor puts into the system when they list it. If they say that a tailgate assist for a 2015 won't fit a 2016, its possible the listing was made before the 2016 model was released, and they're just being too lazy to update the listing. And if their customer service people say it won't work, thats just them not bothering to do their homework. Bad customer support, and lazy people is all it is. I had similar reservations when I first started shopping around, and its understandable. But you should be fine.

Ok great, I did read that they did install the tailgate nut with loctite starting in year 2016, making it a bit more difficulty to break. That's about the only difference I've read. I really appreciate those replies that are aimed to help. And im sorry, I'm not gonna go find a site that says a particular item won't fit a 2016, I'm not here to contest, argue, fight or disprove, I'm here like 90% of us are, to get help and to help, that's it. Thanks to those who are here for the same reason..

lol, this is classic internet for you...back in my day (before the advent of the internet, as we know it since 1990 or so)

groups like this were monthly or annual meetings where people met face to face and at that point we could understand interpretation
and inflection in tone of voice or facial expression

don't get me wrong I love the internet and what it offers, but I don't see people stating this much...I love it
