Hi guys... I have a 99 frontier. 2.4 automatic.. I need to replace the tail housing on the transmission.. it's 2x4.. does anyone know the torque for these bolts and the pattern to tighten them in?

Can I reuse the metal gasket?

Thanks for looking

14-18 ft/lbs. No specified torque pattern, so just go in a criss-cross pattern. Nissan service manual says to replace the gasket. If you have to re-use it, I would at least coat it with copper spray gasket.

Thanks... You've replied to most if not all of my threads.. I'm having a lot of trouble with this transmission.. some if it is bad luck and some of it is the way it was designed..

I have to change tail housing BC I had to drill out a tranny mount bolt and I accidently went through and put a hole in it lol.. I've been making bone head mistakes like that here lately.

I'm having trouble right now.. have you ever pulled and installed one these transmissions?

I was a Nissan tech for 16 years until I left in 2003. Yeah, I've had a few transmission I've had to R&R!

I'm used to gm vehicles lol. I've worked on Nissan vehicles.. frontiers and hard bodies, but they've always been manual.. I graduated auto tech in college but never applied it for a full time job..

I got the transmission back up there by myself which is hard lol without the right jack.. after I got all the bolts on I went to put the dipstick in and it wouldn't go.. another bone head mistake..

Now that I've got it back out with I'm trying to slowly put dipstick in as I get it back hung up there but I can't get it to go up there. Like the dipstick is holding it off..

Not sure how to do it

Lower the trans but leave it attached to the engine and as you jack the trans up, you will eventually get it at an angle where you can partially install the dipstick tube. Continue to raise the trans and it will eventually go in.

... finally got it done.. i got the tube in thru the top.. which was almost impossible. I removed the heater hoses..

Had the tranny just sitting on the jack not pushed up against the engine and the dipstick slid right in.

I finally got an extra hand from one of my buddies.. I was found situations where I needed to be in two places at once lol so i got him to come over..

Thanks for the advice..

I ended up leaving the tail house on the transmission. I jb welded it .. I'll post back here to say whether it holds.. I'll eventually weld it up but it should hold for a while.
