I asked Honda if their 0w-20 was synthetic...and was told no. Doesn't mean it was the truth. I totally hear ya on the 0w argument. I'll ask them again.

My Frontier got the same treatment and ran perfectly until the day it was totaled with 53000 miles. If you are planning on using Mobil 1, keep an eye on the Costco flyer as they often have 6 packs on sale for $10 off. This makes the price almost 50% cheaper than auto parts stores. I buy them 2 at a time when they are on sale.
I used to buy Mobil 1 at Costco when they had a "coupon", but find Wal Mart (5 qt. jugs) to be less expensive. Mobil 1 has rebates on their website (Google Mobil 1 rebate) about twice a year (none active now), usually for $12 off 5 quarts. It's fun to be frugal.

Good to know! Wal Mart is so far from me that the additional discount is not worth the effort or gas. I also prefer the quart size as it is easier to handle and since I use a slightly larger filter, buying 6 packs allows me to add the 5 1/2 quarts much easier.

Don't forget to add oil to the filter before installing it to avoid a 'dry' start.

For the information of those who are interested Phillips Petroleum makes a 0W20 synthetic blend Phillips 66. Why anyone would want it when you can get so many good 0W20 full synthetic oils I do not know.

Back in the old days before synthetic oils were readily available one company (ESSO I think) made a 0W(something) oil for use in the Arctic, I am told it was very successful and fairly widely used. I was in the Antarctic during that time and we could have used it but unfortunately didn't have it. Any engines left outside had to be heated before they were started or they would either not turn over at all or would shear the oil pump shaft or have some other catastrophic failure.

I didn't see Amazon or Walmart listed on the rebate "location" list. Anyone get it anyway?
You won't get the rebate if you buy from Amazon (per the instructions on the rebate site). Although Wal-Mart isn't listed, it has worked successfully for many people on many occasions before. Note that the site lists "some" participating retailers. I just bought a 5 quart jug at Walmart for $25.47 (plus tax).

I only used Mobil 1 coming from a Corvette family the last 20yrs but after this interesting article I've used Royal Purple the last 4-5yrs. I've never had a engine problem using either oil in 25yrs of motoring changing oil every 5-7,500 miles.
