Break in is really not an issue any more, as others have stated. I went with Mobil 1 and a larger capacity filter starting at 5000 miles. It makes remembering the oil chg interval easy when it falls at the 5000 mile mark.

My Frontier got the same treatment and ran perfectly until the day it was totaled with 53000 miles. If you are planning on using Mobil 1, keep an eye on the Costco flyer as they often have 6 packs on sale for $10 off. This makes the price almost 50% cheaper than auto parts stores. I buy them 2 at a time when they are on sale.

As far as the filter goes, I have found a significant reduction in startup noise by using the Bosch D3323 Distance Plus High Performance filter. I used to get a rattle at startup, on the Frontier and the X, but since I switched to this filter, it no longer happens. They claim that "Silicone Anti-drainback Valve Protects engine against dry starts and provides for longer life" and I can hear the difference.

I used to buy Mobil 1 at Costco when they had a "coupon", but find Wal Mart (5 qt. jugs) to be less expensive. Mobil 1 has rebates on their website (Google Mobil 1 rebate) about twice a year (none active now), usually for $12 off 5 quarts. It's fun to be frugal.

Good to know! Wal Mart is so far from me that the additional discount is not worth the effort or gas. I also prefer the quart size as it is easier to handle and since I use a slightly larger filter, buying 6 packs allows me to add the 5 1/2 quarts much easier.

Don't forget to add oil to the filter before installing it to avoid a 'dry' start.
