I have a squeak on my 08 Nismo..happens when you close the passenger door and over anything but smooth as glass terrain. I kept meaning to get it looked at and realized I was at 35,980 miles. Didn't drive the truck this weekend and brought it to the dealer first thing this morning. The service writer said it was going to be $45 for them to diagnose it and that chassis noise is only covered for 12mo or 12k....you have got to be kidding...is this true?

If you are within 3 years/36,000 miles it should be covered under warranty. Repairs are typically covered for 1 year/12,000 miles.

Warranty covers all, then the repaired item has a 1yr/12K warranty applied to the repair.

Meaning if you get it done at 34K miles and have 2mo left on your warranty, then the repair and all it entails, is covered until 46K, or 10 mo after your warranty expires.

Bottom line: Your issue should be covered under the new vehicle 3yr/36k mile warranty as long as the dealer investigated and repaired the issue within that time. In other words, you shouldn't pay a diagnostic fee or anything else related to the investigation or repair of the noise. Any repairs the dealer does should be warranted for 1yr/12k miles from the point at which the repair is completed.

Thanks for the clarification. Would a chassis squeak....or wherever it is goming from, a friend said it was likely the hood or hood latch, be a wear item?

It's only under the 12/12... They're supposed to tell you to bring it in for "squeaks" before it runs out when you take delivery. My Toyota warranty was the same way.

Huh? The bumper-to-bumper warranty is just that; it covers everything except some consumables, such as tires, which carry their own manufacturer's warranty. It also, obviously, does not cover items which are part of routine vehicle maintenance (oil filters, etc.) Suspension components, door components, etc. are not consumables and are covered by the 3yr/36k mile warranty.

Nissan's warranty booklet really isn't bad for obtaining clarification on what is or isn't covered, and the length of coverage. It is also your best resource to resolve any conflicting opinions with the dealer.
