Whoops: I thought you were talking about the lower control arm ball joint and spindle...

After you have untightened the nut holding the pinch point together on the spindle, take a flathead screwdriver and hammer it into the pinch point - don't be too aggressive - just enough to loosen the pinch. After it is loose, spray a penetrating agent like PB blaster (whatever you prefer) on the pinch, and you should be able to knock everything loose with one strike from a sledge (or you can place a pry bar between the lower control arm and the spindle and give it a good jolt). I'm no expert...just a suggestion.

Edit: Agreed with dubie2003 - if you are going to wedge the pinch apart with a flathead screwdriver, DO NOT let it strike the ball joint - it will tear the boot...

Don't use a pickle fork or a screwdriver or whatever around the ball joints. They have a high risk of destroying the joint and you will be screwed.

To do it correctly I would suggest that you soak it in penetrating lube. Then remove the nut most of the way but not all. Then play with a jack to move the assembly up/down and keep giving it some wacks with a sledge. If you are able to get the spindle bolt and UCA in-line, it should all come apart pretty easily. Just takes time and patience.

Leave the nut on the top before hammerin' the piss outta it.

I use(ed) an air hammer when it doesn't wanna leggo; takes 3-4 sec.

Blah blah blah - Hammer the **** out of it.

Yeah! Loosen thenut... back it out untill its flush with the threads on the ball joint.

Then hit the nut/top of ball joint in the direction of disassembly.

This will "pop" out the joint.

*NOTE*

The nut protects the threads on the ball joint, so have at it!

A breaker bar works for me, better than the impact gun. For the bottom shock mount I even used 3in ext. so I can get the socket nice and firm on the nut. If it doesn't work, get a bigger/ longer breaker bar (I don't kno to what length they make those)
