Hello all,
I am racking my brain for the past couple of weeks. I have an 01 CC come to find out I want a little bang, nothing too much just want to feel the bass a little. i just recently replaced the HU and all door speakers with Pioneer all around. Where did you guys buy youre sub boxes and what size and brand speakers did you go with? There is a guy that will make me a custom box (wood not plexi) for $400 without speakers. Last time i checked this wasnt good deal or is it? Looking forward to hearing from you guys.

i built my own sub box for an 8" sub for ~$30 after buying everything needed. you may want to go with a 10" for a CC though, more interior volume means you need more surface area to fill it. 8" is perfect, imo, for 2nd gen KC's. look for something in the 400-500w max and 200-250w RMS range on both the sub and amp

If you build a box make sure it is the correct size for the sub or it will not perform correctly. I suggest running an amp twice as big as the sub. Example a 300w sub needs 600w. Many people disagree with me, but you wouldn't put an engine in your truck that you had to turn 6,000 rpm to go 65mph would you? By doing this you will gain longevity of the sub and amp and also have a much cleaner sound. Just my 3 cents.

i guess there's something to be said for that but i've always heard to try to to match watt ratings for the best results

I would put it as...its better to have an amp that is overpowered than underpowered.

An overpowered amp will have no trouble driving a sub with a lower rating. However, an underpowered amp will be likely to clip the waveform when cranked up (forcing the sub to try producing a square wave instead of a sound wave) , which is bad both for the sub and the amp. Sure you can overpower the sub with the overpowered amp, but everything I've ever heard says its worse to clip it with an underpowered amp than to overpower it.

Proper box size is really important too, both for having it sound good and not breaking things.

$400 sounds kind of high though, unless its dipped in gold. You'd be better off buying $300 worth of tools, $100 worth of materials, doing some research, and then building it yourself.

400 is wayyyyyyy to much!!! I paid somewhere in the range of 300 for a built box and two kickers with amp install. If I were you I'd just look on the net to find a box and copy the idea. Thats what I did with a few tweeks here and there. If you can make the box yourself even better!! I think audio shops are way to over priced now a days even if its a shop you been going to forever!!

Don't put $400 out for a box...

IF you are crafty with wood, gluing, clamping, screwing, measuring, and know what side of the pencil line to cut on (or erase it with the saw) go ahead and build one - but there are plenty of pre-built boxes that are fine quality that don't cost a lot. You also get a warranty and only have to wait for shipping.

Look for boxes made from 3/4" MDF, look inside and make sure they are glued right, and make sure it's not chinese.

*While China is capable of manufacturing some high grade stuff, their "MDF" isn't that great.

I would personally recommend R/T Mobile sound systems boxes. IMO the best.

I agree with HKYStormFront - For what you want, a single 10" sub in a sealed box would be my recommendation.

04 King Cab -w-Pioneer 10" sub in .85 cuft sealed box. 250 watts RMS Sub with matched 250 watts RMS Bazooka amp.

Makes my spine all tingley without attracting unwanted attention from the POPO. Dosen't look like much but it packs a punch. Enough to make stuff in my glove box rattle and my rear view mirror vibrate.
