Hi all,
As of today when I went to start my truck it would start to turn over then the truck would shake like having a seizure and then eventually start. Did this a couple of times with no running problems..drove to gas station, filled up then started..same thing happened but service engine light came on and "slip" light came on...Havent been able to do diagnosis yet via code system but curious what everyone else thought...all advice appreciated. btw its a 2005 nissan frontier crew 4x2...thanks
Brian

btw when driving over the weekend on the highway I noticed that the cruise control was not maintaining the set speed..the truck would slow down about 2mph then drop to 4th gear and climb back up repeatedly...?? This incident was on friday.

Did the diagnosis check and it turns out it is code P0340 which turns out to be a camshaft sensor?? Has anyone else had this problem and if so how easily is this fixed and what kind of $ am I looking at?

CHECK GROUNDS! ALL OF THEM !

Very very well!

Trace every wire that is run from the -ground wire of the battery and bolted to a part of the body/engine.

There is a ground bolted to the body left of the battery, to the right of the air cleaner box, on top of the engine on the right side towards the front ( they're small and tend to corrode easily, these ones are critical... they supply ground for the ignition coils, if this ground is bad, it will cause the computer to go on the FRITZ and cause major damage to the ECM if it gets bad enough )

When I had a bad ground, I had all sorts of false thrown codes. You do only have one code so, it maybe a great idea to have that sensor checked/replaced.

-Fuel Filter

-Listen for a smooth running fuel pump when the key is turned to the ON position ... should be a smooth high pitch whine from the rear of the truck for a few seconds.

-Bad battery, swap it, see what happens.

-Bad terminals - factory terminals are crap, change them or clean the CRAPPP out of them.

Defective IPDM (white fuse box under hood in the black box).. There is a recall of the wire harness that plugs into the IPDM, see if it's been done.

When my ground on top of my engine got so bad, the engine ran really rough for a while... It would smooth out after a few minutes from startup. It eventually got permanent. Ran rough constantly. Eventually while backing out of the driveway... the engine stalled and from there it would not start back up at all. I checked EVERYTHING ( before I knew about those ground wires on top of the engine ).. the thing would turn over but just wouldn't start. Changing the ECM got it running again, but ran rough. This means the ECM fried... fixing the ground after I found it to be bad, returned my truck to fully running condition again, BUT... the replacement ECM I put it was defective, this cause my transmission to go on the fritz ... Couldn't go very fast, and like you said, caused my cruise to cancel it self over and over. I think the first ECM replacement was a used one, then I got a brand new one from nissan, everything's been perfect.

The truck runs perfectly fine after startup. I have never had anything changed in regards to recalls so not sure if that could be it. I am not very good with electrical automotive stuff so maybe I should just take it to the dealer but am worried its going to cost an arm and leg to get fixed. I have 83,000 on the truck and have never had any problems until now. I read on google that some people had this problem after a recent oil change(which I did), not sure if related. Thanks for your help.

Steve500 had some good advise, check your grounds. I'd go so far as to remove, clean, grease, and reinstall every ground that I could find. Disconnect the + battery terminal first.
Start w/the main ground that's on the engine block (follow the neg. battery terminal). I'd clean this and both battery terminals. Steve pointed you toward most of them. Just clean anything you find that's connected to the frame or any other metal surface. Always one of the first things I do when I get a "new" car.

We stopped at a red light. The truck started shutting down. When trying to restart the engine turns over, truck shakes, then shuts down. It will not start. It is a2007 Nisson Frontier. We had to have it towed home. Of course this happened on Sunday evening at 6PM. Called our 24 hour dealer. She said service was closed(of Course). She said to have it towed to the garage. I asked how we were to get home and she said she had no idea because service was closed. She was really helpful-NOT! Any one else have this problem with it not starting. 50,000 miles. Thank's in advance.
