06 4 cyl. One day it's fine, next morning turn the key and you get one click at the starter. Checked relay, it's ok, checked clutch safety, at least it clicks when you push the clutch in. Finally replaced starter, hit the key, same results. Any words of wisdom? The engine cranks if you roll it off and pop the clutch.

Take the clutch safety switch and unplug it and connect the terminals inside the plug, essentially closing the circuit off, if it cranks you know that was your problem and replace the switch.

Edit: How old is your battery and what condition are the terminals in?

Terminals were replaced this past year, battery is 3-4 years. I'll try the clutch switch. I've got a charger on the battery just to be sure. Thanks

The clutch switch is such a common fix for this, I'd try that first. Bypassing the switch is easy and costs nothing.

You'd be wasting time messing with the switch, you've found the problem, you had a dead batt. Now you just need to determine if batt is wornout or just needs a good charge, and find out why it died.

I'd check the batt first for 12.6- 12.8V
3-4 years battery.....I'd check for voltage across the battery terminals WHILE the starter is engaged/clicking. Needs to be over 9.6 volts then. Batteries MUST be tested under load !!!

Of course this assumes that the cables and terminals are all clean and good....

And - of course - try a jump start; if that works fine, then bad battery. Of course this also assumes that the cables and terminals are all clean and good....

Have you checked the Ignition Switch Module yet??

White Light Automotive lighting Cable Wire

The ignition switch module is responsible for running current from your battery to your starter. The START position of the switch goes bad over time. Don't get fooled into thinking that just because the "ACC" & "ON" position of the ignition switch module works fine that the "START" position is also good - it's not. To test it, you'll have to remove the plastic cover on the steering column. Watch the attached YouTube video for additional....

When you are totally bumfuzzled, go back to the beginning. Do ya'll know of anything that allows enough voltage for the starter to click but not enough to turn over? Would a bad ground cause something like that? Are there any switches that would allow the voltage to do that? My experience with switches and relays is they either work or they don't. Other than removing and cleaning the ground, I'm out of ideas.

Checking simple things off the list (for free) is never a waste of time. I was hoping it was just the battery, but alas

Solenoid is new with the starter. You can feel the click in the starter with your hand on it. I am assuming the new starter and solenoid is good it's doing the same as the old one. I carried the old one to a rebuild shop to test and they said it was fine.

You must have good clean cable from the negative battery post to the engine block, and also from the positive battery post to the starter solenoid. It must be clean copper the entire length. No corrosion.
The cable terminals must be like new. It sounds like a terminal is possibly cracked.
