My tailgate makes squeaky sounds. You hear it when you open up the sliding window. I have sprayed some silicone down where the tailgate attaches to the bed and it fixes it for a little while. Anyone have any ideas for a more permanent fix?

Any bearing surfaces that need lubrication, I love Mobil 1 synthetic grease. I've used that stuff on anything from mountain bike headset bearings to door hinges and it always lubricates well and removes any squeaks, along with lasting a good long while. I'd try that in place of the silicone and see what happens.

It may be the latches in their receiving holes and not the hinges.

Go to Lowes and buy it in a tub or tube and apply it with a flux brush, spraying it gets messy.

Remove tailgate. Remove plastic bushings. Grease inside and outside of bushings (you’ll see wear marks). Spray white lithium grease into latch mechanisms. Will be silent after this exercise. (All of these are bone-dry from the factory for some asinine reason...)

And BTW - better to use spray white lithium grease because it goes in a thin liquid and penetrates, then sets up and stays there
