Alright, I searched all over and I could not find anything that was exactly what I am hearing, I think. so the sounds occurs when shifting gears, as soon as clutch is all the way engaged and I go to give it gas it makes a sound for a second or so that sounds like an empty can of spray paint marble josseling around. almost like it sounds just before you stall out your engine. I am sure it is not coming from exhaust or suspension stuff. really sounds like its coming from the engine. kind of sounds like valves clicking while they catch up to the new engine load condition between switching gears. but I dont know jack about that. no noticable power or acceleration differences. probably the most concerned that this is something big getting ready to fail.

any thoughts or theories would be appriciated. I am due for an oil change so I may take it into Nissan and have them look, but I would like some ideas to have them look into so they dont just hand it back and say nothing was wrong (though they may do that anyway...). by the way, I have plugged in the cortex to check for codes and everything is clear. truck is an 07' Manual tranny. Thanks guys.

i've heard throw out bearings going out make some pretty goofy noises, if your in neutral and just push the clutch in and out do you hear any similar noises too or is it only happening when actually driving

only when driving. I cant even get it to make the noise when in neutral reving the engine, pushing clutch in and out, etc. only happens as described above. but consistently when up shifting. I have not noticed it when down shifting.

hum. it has only really started to occur consistently here in the past 3-4k miles or so. just does not seem right. any chance it being something to do with that dang timing chain deal? I just hate noises that you can not point to something and say "that is whats making it because XYZ and its ok because of XYZ".

Sounds like pre-ignition from ignition timing off, too advanced, or poor fuel. Try different brand of premium and see if it helps.

Check all heat shields! I just ripped two off the other nite b/c they made this noise! Next thing i have to do is cut the tip of the exhaust off where it contacts the longer shackle!
I just put on the cat back Gibson exhaust 2 weeks ago (the noise was occuring before and after this) and checked all exhaust/heat sheilds while I was under there. I hate rattles so while I was under there I banged around to search out anything, mostly had rocks above skid plates rattl'n.

I will try a tank of premium and see if that helps.

I have SuperChips set on "Tow" mode right now, I think that was the last setting I put it on. I wonder if it would be worth restoring to stock and seeing if that makes a difference. I have never adjusted any of the timeing with the tuner, is it worth trying something there?

Hi, i am a new member, i own a 2005 kc nismo automatic trans and i had a similar rattling noise. Took it to dealer and they diagnosed it as a bad timing chain, they replaced the chain, under warranty, rattle still there! I researched the internet and found other people that had the same noise, I found that there was a TSB issued on this, which was 05015A, which is the power valve actuator, which is in the plenium, this rattle on my truck sounded like loose exhaust shields, but the noise was coming from the engine. I took the truck back to the dealer with this information, and they diagnosed the TSB code and sure enough that was the problem. They took out the valve and put some kind of adhesive on it. Which was the fix from Nissan, and that fixed the noise! This noise in my truck was right around 2500 rpms. I hope that this information helps you!

got a picture of the TSB? or shotfrom the manual of its location? I doubt that is it being that this noise does not seem to be RPM dependent. will happen at high or low RPM's. more noticable at low RPMs but I have heard a rattle (imagine turning a can of spray paint upside down and hearing the marble hit inside) at higher RPM's when shifting.

Power Valve Actuator

Hi, sorry I didnt get back to you sooner. The TSB means technical service bulletin. The power valve actuator is located on the front of the intake manifold, to the right of the throttle body. I have attached the paperwork that I got from Nissan on this repair. Maybe it will help you to fix your problem. If you think this is the problem I have more information on the repair of this, one thing you can do is take a mechanics stethoscope or a long screwdriver and put it right on the valve as you are hearing the noise, and if this is your problem you will definitely hear it. This problem was found a lot between '05-'07's. Let me know if I can help you in any way.
