My work takes me to Mexico a fair bit, and during a few trips I've had a chance to look at quite a few mid-sized trucks that are tooling about. They are, after all, quite popular. This includes the Volkswagen Amarok, the new Ford Ranger, and the new NP300/Frontier. I've noticed a fairly similar styling in all of them, and I'll be honest when I say that seeing the newer body style (Fronty and Ranger in particular) has indeed proven to be eye-catching and appealing. Just wish the Ranger wasn't moving around when I saw it so I could snag a shot or two. Looks like a mini-Raptor.

The side profile of that "Frontier" looks like a Photoshopped mosaic of 4 entirely different vehicles.

The VW looks like a Chevy Colorado clone.

The Frontier N300 is already released on the road here in Europe, its a nice looking truck! Most notably is the tailgate is super light compared to my D40! Here are some pictures of the two side by side.

But the VW is German engineered, much better than that of a GM product! An unmatched quality. If the Amorak was out when I was shopping for a mid size pick-up, it would've been my top pick, Sorry Nissan ;)

Disclaimer: My dad retired 35 years from GM along with half of my uncles and family near Detroit. The other half worked at the Ford plants. Yet I still chose Nissan ;)

Yeah, up close and in person, that Amarok looked stout. As for the NP300/Frontier looking odd, in person it was a different story entirely. the pictures really don't do much justice. I've been sort of "eh, maybe" on the newer Navara/Fronty design until actually seeing and I've got to say that it was more eye-catchy than I gave it credit for.

I ordered my (Gen 1 NP300 Turbo Diesel ) in Ensenada Back in 2014. I knew it was last year before new Np300. I wanted the 4x4 diesel,Mexico is slow. There just starting to get the new 4x4 diesel.Over seas they have had the 4x4s since 2015.Baja has only seen gas/no 4x4 model. Time will tell if the new Np300 is as good as old model. By the way the VW Amorak 4x4 diesel.(Friend has one) does not hold a candle to the Nissan turbo diesel in the power department. Still its nice truck.

I like the styling overall.
They need to ditch all that uglya$$ chrome though . . . . . just my opinion.

I'm not a fan of chrome. Someone down here has a red Frontier that has approximately all of the chrome accessories possible and it looks like a red-and-mirror flash on the road. To each their own, but it's not for me. I'm still itching to find a black grill to replace the chrome one that came with my Pro-4x.

I'm not a fan of GM products necessarily, but this statement made me think of "Dieselgate"

I was in St. Kitts last week, and saw the NP300 as well. I really hope Nissan doesn't stray too far from the 2nd gen looks when they eventually release a redesigned US version.

Nissan makes macho pickups for the rest of the world, they are called Nissan Patrol.
The US market gets feminized trucks for mall crawling.

I remember the Patrol as an SUV when I was in Argentina back in the 90's One of the guys at Home Depot had one tricked out as a desert runner. Awe inspiring. I've loved the Patrol ever since.

The rumors all all over regarding when Nissan will be replacing the Frontier in North America - 2017, 2018....?

Frankly if Nissan waits until 2018 (or longer) and provides the NP300 (as shown in the original post on this thread) then in my opinion Nissan no longer cares about the mid sized market in North America. Offering a truck that has been available in the rest of the world 3 or 4 years prior is inexcusable.
