I was looking through another forum and found something that I thought was pretty cool and that some of you guys might find useful.

What this guy did was take a mountain bike tire and cut it, then ziptied it to the slider. It sounds pretty ghetto, but I think it's awesome and would work really well. And of course if you wanted it to look nicer you could always find another way to mount it.

Of course since :worthless_thread: here you go :)

I just use anti skid 2" tape, black and works great unless you run against it with bare legs since its like 50grit :)

I use anti-skid tape too. But this looks cool and maybe could be fastend with two-sided tape.

i had thought about doing this before i went with the grip tape - thought it would look a little goofy. that, and those tires are pretty slick when it rains - and it rains here a lot.

i do this tire trick on my DH mountian bikes to prevent chain slap. its not as easy to see - but on the far chainstays you'll find the tires on my old 02 Turner I used to race

belac! you're cheating! That is no Nissan.

It looks cool with the tire on there though. I would attach it with rivets.
I've been found out!
I found it on some FJ cruiser forum.

When I get bored at 4 in the morning and don't feel like watching early 90's Law and Order I browse different forums trying to find mods that I could incorporate for my own truck. :nana:

^^HAHA, and I thought I was the only one who did that too. My particular fav find is this light bar I found on a tacoma a while back.

Nah man, I do that every night. I have a whole folder for DIY's I want to do. It has everything from center console mods from an S10 forum to a molded acrylic mods from a Scion XB forum.

TheOregonFront: HAHAHA. I think your missunderstanding that pic. That light bar actually does flips up, and faces forward! I thought it stayed facing the sky behind the truck at first, that's what made me stop and actually look at it. I couldn't figure out what the hell the point of mounting lights like that would be.

Where can I purchase the 2" grip tape?
A decent hardware store will have it in rolls. You may also be able to find some thicker, kind of rubberized grip tape like the type you may see on stairs sometimes.

Wouldn't it just get ripped to shreds the first good wack/scrape it took off a rock or tree on the side?

Good idea, but I'm doubting how long it would last if you really off-roaded with it.
I would be willing to bet that the zipties would snap off as you step on there and the tire rotates.... again I say, rivets. My nice rivet gun is definitely one of my favorite tools I have invested in.
