I started to swap bumpers today. Has anyone installed a shrockworks rear bumper with the back up sensors? If so, how did you get them to fit? My bumper has the sensors much further apart so I'm going to have to lengthen the wiring harness. Also the plastic housing for the sonar sensor does not fit well into the cut outs on the bumper. Any guidance would be appreciated. I was also surprised to see that they do not make the license plate lights interchangeable from stock to shrock.

Well the bumper is on and the sensors are installed and working. I added 8" length to the wiring of the outer sensors. Did a couple reverse checks and it still beeps at me when I'm going to smash into something. One note was the bumper was snug getting it on to the frame rails. I ended up needing a good ratchet strap to pull the frame rails in maybe 1/8" so I could get the bumper on.

I needed to do some repair work. Last winter while stuck on a logging road in a ditch I managed to knock my rear bumper into my quarter panel. It dented it, can't see, but chipped some paint off so I needed to address that before it started to rust.

I used a black spray in bed liner after sanding. I didn't really care to much on how it looks because it's pretty much completely hidden by the bumper.

I just tucked my truck into the garage for the night, she's a tight squeeze. I'll post some photos tomorrow of the finished product.

Couple things that I'm a little disappointed with. 1) The reverse sensor should be made to fit like stock. 2) The refers sensors shouldn't need to be modified, ie lengthening the wiring. 3) The stock trailer harness fits like crap. It needs to really be trimmed just to get it to fit in the bumper, once it's in it interferes with the closest reverse sensor...
4) The license plate lights are really really lame. They should have made it so you could use the stock lights.

Other than those 4 minor items, it's boss.

I just split the loom 7 or 8 inches for the reverse sensors - there was just the right amount of reach once I did that, no splicing or extending necessary. And I agree, the sensor cutouts should have been milled to the correct thickness to accept the sensors with a stock fit, but I just shoved them in there and they're holding so far. If they fall out over time I'll come up with a solution at that point, but for now it's working so I'm just leaving it be.

Once I finished the first side I wondered if splitting the loom would get me the length I needed. I already had all my tools out and the wire cut so I just kept going.

Also my rear bumper came with no installation instructions, maybe this was covered in there...

Still need to install the reverse lights, but haven't decided which way I'm going to go. Might put them on an independent switch, might put them on the same circuit as the bed lights... no rush to decide.

Also need to install the front bumper and skids.

I did a modification on mine where I use the stock license plate lights. It looks so much better with those than with the supplied half dome chrome lights which look like they should be on some classic sedan with all it's chromed glory. I don't have any chrome on my truck so they would look very out of place. Lengthening the short sections on my sonar sensor harnesses now as I speak, even though I've had the bumper on there for the better part of the past year. I just really detest cutting into any harnesses in any way I guess and wanted to make sure I had all the proper equipment to do it right and make it watertight.

One of these days I need to post up the pictures I took when I devised my method of installing the stock license plate lights. It was a very cheap solution btw and so far after about close to a year, they haven't had a single problem.

Some of the other guys who have installed this bumper say if you just cut open the wire looks for each sensor you'll have enough slack to not modify the harnesses...

I just used the cheap **** shrock sent for the LP lights. I might swap them for some LED ones when I order LEDs for my trailer

You can use the stock license plate lights. Just need to trim some plastic on em and secure them with strong double sided tape - the one for automotive use. Mine have not budged.

I did the same thing with the license plate lights ... mine have not moved and I "off road" a good bit. I know others that split the loom and did not need to add any wiring to install the sensors

i know this threads a bit old but you wouldn't hapeen to remember the guage wire you used for the backup sensor. Some people have siad theirs reached but mine does not. I will need to since i am adding an extension i might as well make it the difference between stock and shrock which is 8.5inches thanks

My sensor bezel inserts are 4 different parts. They are different sleeve shapes and clip positions. So, when I push them into the Schrockworks, the sonars point at odd angles. I think the Schrockworks is a
Flat surface so
I
Think I need straight sleeves. Anyone know?

Same problem with the trailer harness bracket not fitting. I just bout mine and I’m surprised they didn’t fix this error.

The sleeves should be angled. There should be two degrees of angle as well, one shallow and one a bit steeper. The idea is that they project rearward like rays from the sun, not straight back in a line. So the ones toward the ends of your bumper should be facing more outward to the sides to help improve the width of the coverage area.

Ok my bad, I installed my bumper near 5 years ago now and my memory is hazy on it apparently. I went out to the parking lot to check and here are how mine were installed when I did it. One looks to be perfectly straight and I put those on the outer ends and the ones on the inside point inside? I am unsure why I would do it that way other than this is exactly how I pulled them off of the stock bumper, so that's how they went on the Shrock bumper.

Hope this helps some but do note, I had to buy a separate set of harnesses for the sensors, and cut them to lengthen them. I left the original harnesses in my stock bumper in the garage should I ever need to put that one back on. It would just plug back in and pop the 4 sensors back into it. That wasn't the most fun lengthening those cables AND getting them properly watertight but the stock cable lengths don't work in the placement on the shrock bumper.
