There is a local used tire warehouse in the town where I live and after hearing everyone rave about how good of a tire you can get I decided to check it out. They had a set of 265/75/17 BFG AT KO with 30% left on the tread for $30 a tire put on. I'm not normally an avocate of buying used tires because you dont know who had them and how they were taken care of ? I really want a set BFG's but don't have $800 plus being I have a one month old at the house or at least I shouldn't spend the 800 +

Don't take this the wrong way but......why even spend the $120 then for a set of 4. Plus, like you already pointed out, who knows what the condition of the tires are being that they are used. Do you really want that risk with a 1 month old?

if you need tires desperately then it's a good deal. I would not buy used tires, but i'm not in your shoes. I have a 2 month old and can relate to costs of a child. It sounds as though you just like the looks of BFG ATs... calculate the cost of loss of MPGs and not knowing the history, i'd pass even on $30 a tire.

if you need tires check the chevy/GMC forums. the stock size on the full size trucks are 265-70-17's. i got 4 almost new(less than 1k miles) for $100. had to pay for mount and balance but in the end i had a new set of tires for less than $150.

I have also been considering taking the spare out from under the truck and buying 3 bfg long trails.I just don't like the look of them that much. I was told that the longtrails were not designed to run the black wall out. The comment about the clearanvce, wouldn't I only lose 5mm of clearance? That shouldn't rub should it? I don't think I'm going to do it just because my wife drives my truck some and who knows what factor is still in there. Does anyone know where the cheapest place to buy bfg at ko's online?

What size tires are you running currently?
A 265/75R17 is almost a 33" tire. I figured since you brought up the 17 that you were running 265/65R17's that come stock which is almost a 31" tire.

x2 on looking for 265/70/17. There are a ton of them out there, especially take offs with maybe a few hundred miles on them to be had for under $200. Mount and balance from a local mechanic shouldn't be more than 10 a tire, you got a new set for under 250 for certain. Don't mess with 30% tread, you will be swapping them out too quickly, especially if you have wet weather. The BFG AT KO's are terrible in wet once the tread starts to get low.

The tire I was looking at was a 70 series tires . I have always been under the impression that the 265 is the with and the 70 is the distance from the rim cut out to the top of the tire in milimeters. I may completely wrong

The sidewall height is a percentage of the width. So a 265/70 sidewall would be 265 * 70% = 185.5mm. Stepping up from a 265/70 to a 265/75(195.75mm) you add about 10.25mm x 2 = 20.5mm or about 1 inch in total diameter.

You said in your original post you were looking at a 265/75-17. A 265/70-17 will fit fine.
