Howdy!
Just bought a 2000 King Cab V6 4x4 tonight. I was playing around with it and it shifted into 4 high easily in neutral with the mechanical 4x4 knob. After that comes N and 4lo but I cant get it to go past 4 high? The shifter for the transfer case wont go any further even though the knob shows N and 4lo. My previous car had electronic transfer case so I am not used to this. Thanks!

Did you press the transfer shift lever down while trying to shift into 4L?

Yep, push down and then pull the lever.

Yup. Especially the part about snow and mud only - never on dry roads or in the rain.

Thanks guys, with it pushed in it went right away. I plan on reading the guide but I just bought it and was just trying to see if everything worked. It makes a bit of a grinding noise going back from N to 4Hi, is that normal?

Noise normal as it's a manual system. Be sure you are at a complete stop in park before going in, or out, of low range.

If I understood the manual correctly, 4hi can be engaged between 0-62 while moving, but 4lo should be engaged in Nuetral at a dead stop and used with speeds less than 30MPH.

If I understood the manual correctly, 4hi can be engaged between 0-62 while moving technically yes, but if you're doing 60 you don't need 4wd, and if you need 4wd you shouldn't be doing 60..., but 4lo shouldMUST be engaged in Nuetral at a dead stop and used with speeds less than 30MPHOnce you're in 4Lo engine RPM will be your LimFac..
