While digging around on the interwebs today trying to figure out why my truck isn't on the recall for the dreaded fuel level sensor issue, I happened across this service bulletin from Nissan to the service departments. Maybe some of you still having the problem can use this to influence the dealers to help you out, since there is a section on the back that tells them how to submit the claims. I'm going by tomorrow to heckle the manager about this.

Hope this helps!

I had mine replaced under the extended warranty... The one the dealer installed only likes to work from time to time. I know how many miles I can go before empty so I rely on that more than my fuel gauge. I had a very bad experience at my dealer and I refuse to go through it again, hence I deal with the issue... Good luck trying to convince your dealer to help you out. I was told that the fix not under warranty is an $800+ fix.

I was informed at the dealer that ONLY the 08 models were covered under the recall.. Can anyone confirm or deny this based on their notices?

lmao my 08 isn't covered and the gas gauge screwed up 90 miles to get off full, 105 at half tank, 115 gas light is on. At 115 miles i fill up and only put 10 gallons in.

I have an '08 frontier and have not received any recall notice on the fuel sensor. however, my truck was manufactured in Feb. 08 and I understand the recall was thru January 08 and not beyond. That was the last I read on this issue. Maybe I am out of date. Correct me if someone knows differently. Thanks.

That service bulletin has a list of a TON of models all the way back to the 05 models on it. I called Nissan corporate Friday night and opened a case, had them put that bulletin in the reference. If it's a known issue, why are they giving all of us such a hard time about it? I had 2 dealerships quote me $450 to just change the sensor, which just the sensor runs about $100, so labor is retarded. If I can find a sensor I might put it in myself if they wont cover it. courtesyparts.com was out of the sensors last I checked, so if Nissan would cover one for me I'd be happy putting it in myself!

Hopefully pushing this bulletin in their face (which has how the dealership should claim this back to Nissan to get reimbursed on the second page) will help. I hope it helps some of you guys at least!

Just an update, a "regional manager" from Nissan called, and basically gave me the polite way of saying they weren't going to do anything and that I needed the dealer to look at it, on top of that she called the dealer and told them my truck WASN'T covered after telling me they would look into. I spoke to the owner of the dealership this morning (who my family has a long standing relationship with) and he was ill because he said it seems Nissan is picking and choosing who they work this recall out with. He's currently pulling strings to have a new fuel level sensor in stock Saturday to replace mine! We'll see how this goes...

drove 2.5 hours back to my parents house to the dealer we have been dealing with for over 10 years, the owner worked Nissan over and got them to pay for the fix! Picked up the truck at 7pm Saturday, drove over 160 miles and filled up with gas on the way back, the gauge works like its supposed to!!!! Thanks to Vester Nissan in Clinton, NC for AWESOME SERVICE!!!! despite Nissan's efforts to choose who they get this recall to! If you're in the eastern part of NC and need a good Nissan dealership, tell them the Naylor family sent you!

What is your symptoms? I noticed mine... When I fill up... It takes 2 mins for it to go from almost full to over full. It never did that before. It would always shoot right to the top. Is this the first signs of failure?

if you fill it up all the way (like to the cap like I do) that last little bit does take a little longer to register on mine as well.... may be because of pressure in the tank or something, who knows... as long as you don't have an SES light, and keep the fuel above a quarter tank apparently... I was told that letting the fuel drop below a quarter tank is what causes the fuel level sensor problem (which if that's true then its a piss-poor design...).

Ok, cool. Maybe i'm retarded and never noticed the slow rise in the last 5% of the gage.

And yeah, WTF, that is piss poor design, at best! Lack of effort, IMO.
