Is the Seal-Oil, Crankshaft Part No. 12279-4Z001 covered by the 60,000 mile drive train warranty? The reason I ask is mine is leaking AGAIN! At 14,550 miles mine was replaced under warranty by the dealer. This past weekend while changing my oil I noticed it is leaking AGAIN. I now have 55,500 miles on my truck. What's the story with this seal? I have seen some others post this same problem. Thanks.

I did make a call to the dealer. It is covered under the drive-train 60,000 mile warranty. I also called nationail Nissan customer service to ask if there was a service bulletin or recall on this oil seal. They said there was none but wouuld have the Nissan regional rep contact my dealer before they did any work. Just seems real odd that this seal has failed twice.

I had a 1977 Datsun KC for 24 years. It developed a crankshaft seal leak long after it
was out of warranty. I had it replaced by a friend who is a Datsun/Nissan mechanic.
He told me that it would probably start leaking again at some point as it had scored the
crankshaft as it collected dirt around the leaking seal. Sure enough it did start to leak a few years later. The truck at that point was not worth the price of a new crankshaft.

This could be your problem as well.

Let me know if you find out any thing more about your problem because I had to also have work done on my rear axle.
When my tires were replaced recently, they found oil leaking from the axle on to the left rear brake shoes. I thought that was strange since the dealer had replaced the whole rear end 20,000 miles ago because of a leak that they had found. When I brought it in to the dealer this tiome, they gave me a little bit of a hard time and tried to tell me they would only pay for $300.00 worth of any costs. I did remind them that I have 60,000 mile drive train coverage and they replaced the seal and brake shoes the next day.

Oh, they told me that my 18 inch rims are what caused this problem and it will probably happen again in 15 - 20,000 miles if I keep those rims on my truck. That sounds like a bunch of crap but i'm still looking around to see if I can find others with this same problem.

Had my appointment with the dealer yesterday to look at the problem. They have to order the part (oil seal) and will replace it under the 60,000 mile drivetrain warranty on April 4th. I have a feeling that this is going to happen again in another 40,000 miles if I have the truck that long.
