I have a 2002 3.3 S/C with the K&N CAI, I was wondering if any of you guys have this same set up with the Flowmaster 40 series muffler. I just wanted to know how it sounds, compared to just the CAI. Worth getting??? thanks

if you dont mind the louder drone inside the cab, get it.
of course it'll be loud outside.

I had it on a 2k DR, w/ dual outs, it sounded good to me.
Sound output will vary depending on how many exits and the type of tips you have.
i would highly advice you not to go the original 40. i have the k&n and i supper 44. sounds great
so the 44 sounds better, why not the 40. Just wondering
Dont get a 40 series flowmaster with any supercharged engine. It sounds like a jet plane because the flowmaster is chambered and the exhaust air hitting it will sound like crap. You need to run a straight thru muffler design, like the magnaflows that dont use chambers.
Flowmasters sound GREAT with you have a n/a engine.

you will sound like a pissed off weed eater with the original 40

So, how exactly does a supercharger change the tone of the exhaust compared to an NA engine? I know a turbo engine will sound different from experience, but don't know how a S/C can make a difference in the exhaust note.
thanks for the imput guys, all i know is that after my CAI, the S/C sound is WAYY more and you hear the whistle of the throttle body... anyone with a S/C runnin a good sounding muffler

I had a Chevy s10 NA 4.3L with 40 flowmaster. Sounded AWESOME! I then bought a vortech supercharger and installed it. The flowmaster sounds like crap! Everyone would tell me that my truck sounds like a "jet airplane." You cant hear the engine's rumble when i was boosting. I did alot of research and the reason why people dont run 40 series flowmaster when boosted is because the extra exhaust air coming out of the engine due to boost would cause that "jet" noise when the air hit the chambers of the muffler.
I switched over to magnaflow which is a straight thru muffler design (meaning you can look at one end and out thru the other end,) and the "jet" noise went away.
Here is a picture of flowmaster 40 interior chambers..

This next picture is the inside of a magnaflow...

mann i should have been in sales...........

that is what i was lookin for thanks very much!
i think the magnaflow sounds better regardless of n/a or s/c, flowmasters have that "hollow" sound and i just don't like it, no offense to you FM users, however i think FM's sound good on most v8 applications.
i put a flowmaster 40 series on my 01 SC and it sounds good. I didn't want a really loud muffler. I haven't listened to it with the windows down but it sounded nice in the shop. it's been to cold to cruise around with the windows down.
intake/exh

i have the nismo cold air intake with magnaflow high flow cats and a 3" magnaflow exhaust system, the only thing is, you need to get a custom y-pipe or use the stock y-pipe with connectors to fit. i love the way the magnaflow sounds, its not annoying like a honda civic with a fart cannon and it doesnt sound like a chevy with coke cans in the muffler. its a really good performance sounding tone. (also helped gas mileage a little bit and made it a little more torquey)
What # magnaflow are you S/C guys using?

What # magnaflow are you S/C guys using? I am gonna go with this muffler but which one do I need to go with. I want it to be semi quiet. A bit throaty but not to loud on the inside of the cab that I can't hear the radio.
