Nice truck! I really like that color.

Trust me, the mod bug bites hard. Be wary of it. :D

The first addition is always the most frustrating for n00bs like me..

(Tyger Soft Tri-fold cover installed after much gnashing of teeth and consumption of youtube videos)...

Pics, left-to-right..

1) The obligatory warning label/car tag

2) Proper finger-width air gap to make sure I don't rub the paint off of the cab

3) The obligatory label shot

4) The Bed cover established...

Apparently I need some anti-venom, stat!

Just updated my original post to add more to the WTB list. Reading this site and all the great ideas from others is dangerous to my pocketbook.. :)

Despite being pretty much down with a cold all day and feeling miserable, I had to get out to pick up meds and found time to stop by and have RootBeer's new rims added on.

The silver center caps are the ones from the original SV rims, but honestly, I think they're close enough until I can find some matching P4X caps for a reasonable price.

I'm getting closer to what I thought it should look like. I kinda do feel "poserish" for adding on P4X rims to an SV, but the honest and simple fact is that I didn't have another $7k to buy an actual Pro-4X, and this is close enough for me considering there's probably a 90% chance that I'll never get her off-road.. Sadly, I'm just a commuter who needed a ride capable of handling the occasional craigslist find.. :)

Meh, you don't need the Pro-4x package to rock those wheels. I love those wheels.
^Agreed. And for what it's worth, I don't think it's poser. Good looking' truck!
Looks 101% better!

Thanks to @mhevne1 for the "new" rails. He was even cool enough to slap them on for me while I was parked in his driveway... (Now I just gotta get used to stepping over them and not kinda "sliding down them" when I get in and out of the truck :) )

Also, thanks goes out to @EastCoastSV for the idea to replace the stock with a 13" AntennaX off-road antenna. I just gotta figure out how to straighten it, as it came out of the package bent like that...

On the subject of car stereos...

Having just spent about an hour in BestBuy playing with a Pioneer 4200 CarPlay head unit, I'm almost ready to vote that out and stick with the OEM units. Both the Pioneer and Kenwood units I played with were FAR too complicated to be futzing with while you're going down the road... For me, that's an accident just begging to happen..

Anyone know of anyone getting rid of their OEM GPS unit?

I'm kinda depressed that they stopped carrying the better end speakers as well. I had a set of Infinity reference speakers in an old Grand Marquis that I would just die to have back now. Alas it seems that most retailers stopped carrying them, and those you can find are NOS... I couldn't even find any Harmon Kardon or other good series speakers.

BestBuy's top end speaker seemed to be a $100 set of JBLs, which while "not bad" compared to the OEM speakers, weren't anywhere near as nice as my old Infinity References..
Truck is lookin' good! Just my opinion, but I would have gone with a 14in. metal antenna from AntennaX. The rubber ones will develop a curve from wind resistance. So it doesn't matter if it's straight now or not, it won't be later. My truck has the 7in. metal antenna from AntennaX on it. I don't listen to over the air radio, so reception is not an issue. Just sitting in my driveway, it seems to do just fine. I've been a Sirius subscriber for almost eleven years (lifetime since 11-05). The stock speakers may not be the best out there. But they do alright when coupled to a new head unit, which is what I did to my truck.
Truck looks great, segwayne! Just secured my own set of steprails today as well.

JMO: consider a dedicated car stereo shop over Best Buy.
Yeah our stock SV system is just OK at best. A decent mobile audio system starts with the headunit (HU). The Kenwood HU I had in my '00 came with a handy remote about the size/length of 1.5 matchbooks. Once learned I didn't need to look down at the HU at all. With a solid amp, sealed sub and quality coax in the doors I was rolling with fidelity. As a non-electrical dude, I had it all custom installed...and will do the same in a year or two with my '15 SV. Let them contend with the Bluetooth mic, steering wheel controls, wiring, YADAx3. Fwiw, I enjoy precision over volume when it comes to listening pleasure.

Looking good, thats a nice color.
Your 4X wheels and truck looks great!

Saw your other thread looking for tires - not sure if you are still in the market.

If you are looking for middle of the pack, as someone else has mentioned, can't go wrong with Cooper. Seems to be a decent price.

I'd check one of our sponsors (Discount tire). They may also be able to work out your install at a sponsored installer in your area.

Cooper Discovery AT3

Mileage Warranty: 55k
SideWall: White Letters
Load/Ply Rating: B - 4 Ply

Installed JBL GX963's in the front, and JBL GTO-638's in the rear.

Not perfect, but 1000% better than the stock speakers. I'm guessing at this point that to get any better, I would HAVE to replace the head unit, which I still don't want to do until they get a lot less complicated (and cluttered) to use...

Absolutely... you're not hearing the full capabilities of those JBLs because of the limitations of the OEM head unit

Two months ago, I posted pictures of the truck the day I bought it (or shortly thereafter). Compare those two (in the original post) to today. I think I'm headed in the right direction...

Looking good!

Im thinking about upgrading my stock stereo first. Actually that's all I got planned yet (that and getting a spray in bedliner). When I check crutchfeild, it tells me that the GX963 wont fit my vehicle (2016 S). Did you have to mess about custom fitting them or they fit right in? Or I guess maybe the S vs SV may have different setups (tho I wouldnt have thought they would).

What are the speaker dimensions? 6x9"? front and 6.5" back? Crutchfeild is giving me tons of results that arnt those sizes that say "fits with bracket". I guess you could fit most anything smaller than the opening in if you put brackets on it...

SV has a better HU than the S, which just has a basic cd player/radio. Im debating upgrading the speakers first, even tho they wouldnt be taken full advantage of (if I do HU first, that's more pricey, then im going to instantly want to upgrade the speakers to take advantage of the new HU). Even tho the stock HU is a bit crappy it should still at least work with new speakers wouldnt it? (Had a friend tell me that it wouldn't power bigger speakers.. they wouldnt reach their potential, but they'd at least make sound shouldnt they?)

That's my next step if I really feel I need to. In an S, it's a much less grey area since you've got the basic radio, but on mine, I have to take into consideration that it's not just the head unit I'm replacing, but the backup camera, SiriusXM module, steering wheel controls, and everything else.

I keep looking at the upcoming JBL Legend CP100 because I just feel that most of the current "carplay" and "android play/whatever" units out there are kinda half-arsing it and they're overly complicated to figure out hoq to use when you're on the road.

That being said, the 2016 Kenwood top of the lines are supposedly offering a simplified and streamlined interface. Since I'm in no hurry though...

... a necessity. Especially if you're gonna be tossing wood and tools back there.

I can't speak for the difference between the S and SV, but the Fronty (at least the King Cab) takes 6x9's up front and 6.5" in back, which is weird really. I'd have thought it would work the other way..

You might either pick up the phone and call Crutchfield, or talk to the guys at the local shops. It may be a matter of wiring more than the fit. There's no way Nissan built different doors just for the S, so I'm imagining that's it.

{edit: Thinking about it, didn't the S come with a two-speaker setup, and if so, wouldn't those be in the rear door?}

As for dimensions, you're probably better off with sticking to the 6x9 and 6.5" models unless you want to go full custom and build a box to take up the back seat. You might also consider getting a component set which would put a set of tweeters up front on the dash like the SV and SL models.

From experience, if it were me and I had an S, I would just plan to do it all at the same time. You'd be much happier with the investment. Like I said, the only reason I haven't upgraded my HU is the fact of all the other stuff (backup cam, sensors, steering wheel controls, etc).

The stock head unit will work with the speakers, just as mine does with my JBLs, and they sound better BUT... I find that the stock head unit simply doesn't have the power to drive the JBLs and I have to turn the volume up to like 50%+ just to get the same amount of volume as the stock speakers.

I initially thought to just add a $150 JBL 4-way amp, but aftermarket amps aren't designed to hook up to stock head units (reportedly) without having to buy various different adapters for $$$. Since I'm not electronically inclined, it was going to cost me 3x the cost of the amp just to get it put in.

If I'm gonna do that, I'm just going to replace the head unit.. :)

In any event, good luck...
