..just joined and reading about issues with the truck...I just bought an 06 frontier le...it has 79,000 miles on it...I would like to know if the radiator is still under warranty even though it has no issues...will the dealer replace it given the problems with transmission fluid/antifreeze mix...if not...I am very leery about replacing the radiator and having the same issues, the truck has a transmission cooler from the factory...what if I just add a second aftermarket transmission cooler as opposed to changing the radiator...I am concerned about not keeping the transmission cool enough with just a bi-pass of the radiator to the one transmission cooled...any help on the subject would be appreciated...and not to be rude, but I would appreciate any answers from people who “know” and are not just “thinking they know” thank you!

Welcome.

A 2nd transmission cooler will not fix the problem. The issue is internal on the stock radiator and not the transmission cooler. There are aftermarket aluminum radiators that correct the issue.

There is a fitting inside the radiator that can fail, where the transmission fluid passes through a tube that regulates its temperature. This allows the transmission fluid to mix with coolant and kill the transmission.

Welcome to the Club. I have an 07 LE and I had the bypass on my truck for a few years before I replaced the radiator with an aftermarket one. I did have one occasion of my tranny overheating after a 7 hour highway drive and then a one hour mountain pass, it put my truck into limp mode in the middle of nowhere while having my two young children in the back. It was then I replaced the radiator and hooked the coolant lines back up.

I don't remember how the extended warranty worked on those radiators, but it was a pain getting them replaced before they caused damage. Call a dealer with your SIN and they can tell you right away.

Thanx Z..you are confirming what BC had to say..much appreciated...now, if anyone knows the warranty rules...that would be awesome..or should I just suck it up and put in the new rad at my expense...I will be towing on a rare occasion (hurricane evacuation only) a tandem axle trailer (2500 total weight including contents)...should I invest in a 350.00 rad or will the 125.00 amazon suffice..also have heard of a fuel sensor issue (shows 1/4 tank when in fact it's empty)...is that a recall or am I on my own with that too!..thanx again for the help, this rookie appreciates it!!!
