What is the purpose of the resonators and the baffle?

Does that air box mod seem comparable to an actual CAI like the K&N or AIRAID, as in will it provide the same "results"?

If so it makes a hell of a lot more sense to do that rather than drop $200+ for a CAI.

Thoughts?

generally people dont want to hear their engine, exhaust, or intake music. the baffles and resonators muffle any sound of air moving into the engine.
I dont know how the two compare, I have done the air box mod on my truck and added a K&N. the only thing I have noticed, is I can hear the air intake with the windows down now. I can see where the results may vary between a true CAI and an airbox mod. with the airbox mod, you are still pulling air from between your inner and outer fender, you just add a 3" diameter opening to the 2" from the factory. a true CAI kit the filter had more air access. Also, the CAI has a smooth intake tube instead of the corregated tube from factory.
remember tho, at WOT, you still only have a 70mm throttle body.

Save the $$$$ and do the airbox mod. I like the peace of mind knowing I still have an enclosed airbox as opposed to an open style ( K&N), makes it harder for water to get in when offroading. The gains will be very minimal as well.
