When my daughter's 1998 V6 Pathfinder was diagnosed as "bad coil inside the distributor", she asked for my advice. I recommended she get a brand-new distributor for it, was under $100 shipped from an Ebay retailer, and I installed it and did the ignition timing.

Was successful, and the Pathfinder (she'd bought it used) immediately had increased power that two shops could not diagnose as to reason for poor performance.

Thank you very much.

Back then I also had difficulty locating a source for the 1998 Pathfinder's coil, why we went with a brand-new distributor.

Not that many will state to get a FACTORY distributor, but that runs several times more $$$. Daughter got a distributor with a 10-year warranty.

IIRC, there are no more factory/OEM distributors for the 3.3 V6...unless they are aftermarket remanufactured or just plain aftermarket.

RockAuto.com has them from $103 and up.

I just did this a month or two ago on the 4 banger. To get the right part I had to remove it from the distributor to get the part number off it. Then it was a simple Google to find one. Very cheap actually and it's been working fine.

I just purchased a brand-new distributor for my 1988 Mazda truck from RockAuto; it wouldn't spark, and I returned it. Not claiming that RockAuto had any fault in this, they're just the reseller.

After a month running a used ignition control module in my old distributor, I bought another brand-new distributor for it through Amazon, different brand name, but was the same manufacturer, could tell once I saw it. However, this one worked fine, and powers my Mazda truck now. So I'm just saying that different "brand names" for a distributor for an older vehicle could all be made by the same supplier.
