Replace oil filter on 2010 Frontier SE V6 ?

8309 Views 24 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  RockHawk JHKU
So this is my first oil change on my new truck .I picked up some Castrol 5w30 & a K&N Oil filter. I removed the oil plug and drained oil ,then I searched for the oil filter ,and all I find is a polished aluminum capped thing with a strange end and a few screws and nuts on the end. Is this the filter ,and how do I remove it ? Thanks for any help!!

You could always be ghetto and wrap your arm in old news paper to keep it from getting cut.

For future use thou, you can use some door edge molding on the opening. Basides that, it is just easier to remove the skid if you have the time. It helps when cleaning up after the oil change since the little run-off plate doesn't really work.
Or you could try one of these...

Oil filter removal tool and spill boot

Also recommended new filter tightening is 2/3 turn after filter gasket makes contact.
Or just take the skid plate off and put it in the far dark corner of the garage.
Reach around skid plate on pass. side - it's easy. Remove only one bolt on plate and swivel out of the way to look through - use end-cap style filter socket on a ratchet.
I do the ole "reach-around" method as well... However I found if I just took a sheet of 400 grit sand paper I had no problem getting the traction I needed to take it off. I know FRAM filters suck, but I did dig the traction they had on them when I used them in my old Saturn...
are you located in lawrence KS?
Nope, St Louis. Grew up in KC though as a lifelong Hawk fan.
