Reno area trails 1/30 & 1/31

Just a friendly reminder that I reserve the right to change the trail plan if I feel conditions warrant it.

To be blunt with you guys, if you are planning on making this drive from the Bay area on Saturday morning (or heck, even Friday evening), you should be prepared for the possibility that you may have to turn around. Even if the pass is open, conditions could be hazardous (I've driven over the pass during whiteout conditions and it's one of the least fun things ever). If you aren't OK with either of those possibilities, you should really consider passing on this trail run. There will be other opportunities...promise.

into the eye of the storm

We should be easy on the gas and two hands on the wheel as it is the mantra when chasing this storm (like pamplona, Spain). good to see BCBrian and wolfman will run ahead of the main front. jbum2x? and I will depart late afternoon and tempt fate to cross the pass before midnight to arrive in sparks for a craps game. winner on the opening roll...... 7 and 11 pay.

roll easy and steady as we go.

we have a fall back position if road closure is ordered.
light the fires and kick the tires!

regards,
Eric::smile::

The forecast is definitely a moving target. Snow is not expected on the pass until 1am sat, so hopefully all will be safe. It also looks as is if we picked the right area for saturdays run as the weather for Nixon is now predicting partly cloudy for most of sat. Sundays run to the Virginia City area may have a little snow. Bring it on!

Time for a tire test! My new 285 DuraTrac's are going to be run in just about every condition this weekend.

Bring your camera's folks, an epic weekend of wheeling fun awaits!

Reno area trails 1/30 & 1/31

Yesterday's trail run was a lot of fun and I was happy for the opportunity to use my truck as a guinea pig/trail breaker through some of the rougher spots. I will post a pic thread later.

Having said that...for those of you planning on attending today's run who are able to check the forum this morning...

^I am glad that I said this over and over again.

As of 5 am, I measured 3 inches of snow at my house in northeast Sparks (EDIT: 4 inches now at 6:30). Heavy snow is expected through this afternoon, so we could potentially get a lot more.

I am planning on changing today's trail, as I don't feel that it is a good choice under the current conditions. The meeting spot and time will remain the same. We will discuss our trail options when we all get there.

Please top off your tank before you arrive at the meeting spot. I have two trails in mind, and neither one has a gas station anywhere even remotely close to the trailhead.

Try to allow some extra time to remove snow from your truck and to drive to the meeting spot. And please drive carefully, and leave lots of space between you and the car in front of you. It doesn't take much snow for the highway to become a slip and slide.

I'm working on the pic thread and will post a link shortly.

I hope you made it home. 80 is closed over the pass right now.
I left Sparks at 8am. Definitely more snow than Saturday morning. It was awesome! It was 22 degrees and snowing pretty good at the pass, but caltrans did a good job plowing the roads. Glad I got on the road early. Traffic was very light.

Thanks again for the great trip. I'm sooo glad I didn't hit you!>:D
