Brian, please add me to the dinner on Saturday.
It's just going to be me this time. Too much work when I bring them along! ::grin::jbum, will the family be with you for this trip?
I can't remember the last time I had to drive over the pass during a storm. I'm leaving the Bay Area sometime between 2 and 5... should be interesting when I reach snow level.Snow is expected over Donner Pass from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon.
If any of you guys coming from California were planning on making the drive Saturday morning, you'll want to keep a VERY close eye on the forecast and may want to rethink your decision. It's normal for snowstorms to add anywhere from 1-3 hours to the drive over the Pass, and it's not uncommon for them to close it altogether in the event of whiteouts or spinouts. I hate to sound like a hard ***, but we have a very long trail planned for Saturday followed by dinner plans and we can't afford not to start on time.
I left Sparks at 8am. Definitely more snow than Saturday morning. It was awesome! It was 22 degrees and snowing pretty good at the pass, but caltrans did a good job plowing the roads. Glad I got on the road early. Traffic was very light.I'm working on the pic thread and will post a link shortly.
I hope you made it home. 80 is closed over the pass right now.
Oh, is that topic not off limits? That's good to know when I create the trip report.
Oooh... looking forward to the trip report. >I want to hear this story... >>
