I would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested to join us. Come on out and help me celebrate my return to the trail and my birthday both in one fabulous weekend!

For this run skid plates and sliders are strongly recommended and off road tires along with front and rear recovery points are mandatory.

The following trails have been chosen for their scenery and may change depending on weather conditions. During the past week the snow has gotten so deep on some trails that they are now impassable. This could change prior to this meet and effect the trail selections.

Saturday, Jan 30th - meet at 9am at Lockwood Market, 200 Canyon Way, Sparks, NV 89434
This run will head east on Hwy 80 to Fernley NV and north to Prozac Canyon and feature fun climbs and fire roads in open country with wild horses and burro's. Time permitting we may also visit an abandoned mine.

Sunday, Jan 31st - meet at 9am at Lockwood Market, 200 Canyon Way, Sparks, NV 89434
This run will include the Petroglyph's and some trails in the historical Virginia City area.

Attendees:
1. BCBrian sat/sun 100%
2. JeniorNV sat/sun 100%
3. Wolfman437 and family sat 100%
4. Kia dude sun 100%

Thanks bhowdy.... I needed a good laugh today!

We are staying at the Nugget from the 29th to the 31st. We will be in the area for sure so we'll keep in contact and see about meeting up one day.
Excellent! Timing is EVERYTHING! I hope you can join in for at least one of the days as the trails in the Reno area are a lot of fun!

For now I will put you down for sat (my bday). Let me know if that needs to chg.

I'm hoping we can get my radio installed long before this trip!

Don't forget its my birthday that day too. We're thinking of hitting Cabelas on the way up there and getting lunch there Friday on our way up, then wheeling and hanging out with the Frontier crew saturday and having a nice bday dinner. Then sunday just let the kids play in the snow before heading home.
I was just coming back here to say that! Great minds think alike as I was going to stop at Cabela's on the way into town as well! Does Cabela's have a restaurant or is there something nearby for lunch? I might just meet you there.... or maybe we can meet up and caravan up from Cordelia?

John is 90% in for one day or the other.
Sweet! Hopefully we can all get together for dinner sat night. As we get closer and see who is attending, maybe we should make a reservation somewhere....

This is going to be a FANTASTIC weekend!!

First post updated with the trails we have decided to run. Flexibility is going to be necessary as we determine the best trails for the weather conditions. These are located east of Reno in area's that receive less snowfall normally.

This winter may turn out to be anything but normal for all of us in the west and the Reno area is no exception. As we get closer to this w/e, more will be revealed.

One small correction I'd like to make is that the VC hills typically get more snow than Reno, but unlike some of the trails that you and I were discussing originally they are still generally passable year round. There are a couple possible routes to VC from the Petroglyphs area. One of my favorite routes climbs to about 6500 ft in elevation. We may even choose to take that route to VC *hoping* for snow on the ground.

For Saturday's trail, good tires are mandatory and stock Pro-4x/Nismo skids are a good idea, although I have taken stock rigs through these trails. For Sunday, I am also going to strongly recommend rock sliders as Prozac Canyon is a bit more chewed up than it has been on some of my past trips through there.

It would have to take a pretty massive snowstorm for me to want to avoid either of these areas altogether, so the final decision isn't likely to change...but I still reserve my right to ask everyone to be flexible.

I haven't seen much interest in this run. These are fun trails, guys...you should come. :)

Reno area trails 1/30 & 1/31

The only thing I need is a good safe hill for the kids to ride down for a little bit and to let them play in the snow.

No guarantees as far as snow on the trail, but you'd certainly be able to find something on the way home.

There is a snow park at Kingvale that has sledding, but it costs money. Going up the main service road on Peavine would probably be a decent place to find a hill for sledding, unless it stops snowing completely between now and then (not likely), but it would be a little out of your way. The road that goes past Boca and Stampede would be excellent for building snowmen and is right on your way home...possibly fewer options for sledding but you could probably make do. That's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

Less than a month away!

I have informed a few of the regular NorCal/NV crew about this run and I'm hoping for them to step up and join in the fun.

Anyone who is interested in exploring some trails in the greater Reno area is invited to join us, as long as you meet or exceed the minimum requirements laid out in the 1st post.

I'm looking forward to celebrating my birthday (and Rudy's) on the trail! Post up if you are interested.
