I've had a couple locals drop out and updated the first post.

Undecided. I would have both kids in tow. 9 is a little early. I'll text you.

I drove out to the trailhead this morning to confirm that the gate isn't locked. (It was locked earlier this year; the first portion of the trail is on private property and there were some landowner vs USFS issues.) I can see a lot of yellow patches of trees from the bottom of the trail. I'm feeling really optimistic about pretty scenery.
