I'm a maybe for both dates, still trying to convince the wife to do a Reno trip twice in a month.A few people at the recent Hollister meet expressed interest in doing a Reno area run, so I'd like to see if I can get something going.
My own selfish desire is to plan this around the aspens in the higher elevations changing color. October is typically a good month, but with the weird weather we have had I'm not sure what they are looking like right now.
The two weekends I'm looking at are Oct 24/25 and Nov 7/8. Oct 24 is less than two weeks away, but I'm afraid November might be too late in the season for fall colors. I am planning on doing a scouting trip this coming weekend to see how the aspens are doing. My choice of weekend may end up changing based on their condition.
The trails I have in mind are HLT and the Squeeze Rock trail up to the top of Peavine Mountain. Both trails are stock *doable*. I have successfully spotted a completely stock Toyota Tundra through both trails with no damage. Having said that, there are rocks on both trails and even with a spotter there is potential for your rig to receive bumps and bruises. Requirements would be 4WD, at least one recovery point, and no step rails/nerf bars. Mud flap removal recommended.
What do you guys think? Is this something you are interested in having me put together?

So i guess it's just a Reno area run now....::grin::I decided to do my scouting trip after work today and found this.These damn trees are too unpredictable.
Have you ever checked out the trails near Boca reservoir? They any good?
Which trail is harder? The one on Sat or Sun? My truck is lifted but I absolutely have no armor... :frown:OK, I'm making it official. They're fun trails regardless.
Hunter Lake Trail on Sat 10/24.
West side of Peavine Mountain on Sun 10/25.
I will cancel in the event of snow/rain/mud/ice.
And I'll probably scout out one or both trails this weekend anyway.
The elevation gain is big. Peavine climbs from about 5K to 8K; HLT goes to around 9K.
We'll probably finish with HLT around late afternoon and Peavine around mid-day, but the exact run time will depend on a lot of factors.
There is camping in the area, but people typically find a hotel or just come for the day.
Unfortunately it will just be for the day, my plan is to drive up to Sac Friday night and stay at a relative's place and leave early Sat to meet up with everyone. My wife's cousin lives in Sac which is my selling point to her (he he).Just a day run for you?
If you're feeling generous and decide to make two of each I'd be very interested taking the other set... I'd be compensating you for it of course... ::grin::Well, looks like I'm out for this one as well!
I don't want to take the ford yet, I'll have to remove the steps and fab up some
Rock guards/skids for it.

Are we all doing the all you can eat lobster buffet after? ::grin::::grin::I expect we'll finish late afternoon/early evening? Typically this is about a 6 hour trail, but a lot of factors play into how long a run will take and it's always hard to predict an exact end time.

I've already mentioned this a couple times but it is important enough to bear repeating. If you have nerf bars installed (a couple of you do), *please* remove them before next weekend. Nerf bars on HLT will make for a bad time. Those of us who are off road veterans refer to things like nerf bars and bull bars as "damage multipliers" because when they are hit, they tend to cause more damage to the vehicle than if there was nothing there at all.
I only nag because I care.
I'll be coming from Roseville Sat morning as well. I was planning to leave around 6am, which should be plenty of time to get to Boomtown by 9:30.I'm in for Saturday. I'm hoping it's the battery and not the starter, most likely though it's the latter.... I'll confirm whether I'll make it tomorrow or not. *sigh*
Yes she is, but we're friends again. Had to replace the battery and the positive terminal... i should be there tomorrow morning, unless something else breaks...Your truck is a jerk.

Defective battery terminal, had to replace the positive terminal and replaced the battery..Hopefully just a loose batt cable terminal. If you can twist either of them by hand it's too loose.

The drive up to Peavine wasn't technical, but the landscape was amazing. Something about the sparse vegetation and wide open sky made it feel like driving on a different planet...
The trail also started to become more technical and really fun as we passed through the forest. Unfortunately, this was about when I ran out of room in my camera. Glad that Mr_Scott was able to take some pictures of the rocky stuff. Thanks again to Jen for organizing this run. :ugogirl: Had a great time and met a lot of nice people. Can't wait to do it again next year!
