Here's one of the options that I wish Nissan would have offered. I think this would be a great mod if you keep the tailgate locked and have to open it often. I found this site "DynoLock.com" that offers a kit for the Frontier that would tie into the remote door locks, so everytime you locked your doors the tailgate would also lock. A local accessory installer told me that they could do it with a generic kit but I'm not sure if it would work properly. Kits run about $70 plus installation (pic below).

Has anyone else looked into this or installed one? And have you found any other company that provides these kits?

Thanks for any help, R.D.

Nismo54,

Looks interesting, thanks for giving me one more thing to add to my wish list.
Someone get one of these and then show us less fortunate people how to install it.

This is at the top of my wishlist and fairly inexpensive. Only worried it may not be an easy install. We need the guys that can install anything to tackle this one. This weekend I'll check with some alarm installers to see what they think, one aready told me that it may not be easy to find the wires for the door locks. I'm hoping someone will read this that's already installed one.

I order a tonneau today that latches inside and it's going to be a pain to lock and unlock the tailgate everytime I want into the bed. Maybe getting lazy but it sure would make life easier to be able to lock/unlock with remote. I also saw where there's a remote lock for some tonneau covers (Fold-a-Cover and Retrax, I think).

I can install that in about 1-2 hours. If anyone is in north east PA and want to order the kit I'll put it in and write a detailed how to with pics.

Donahue57,

Are you planning to come to/through Oklahoma on a vacation this year? I would love to have one of these myself, but I know I couldn't handle the job. Maybe with your in-
structions I could get a local installer to do it.

Thank you for stepping up to the plate on this.

Good timing, OkieScot. I was already planning on an update tonight. I found one of the best installer in town and got mine scheduled to be done Feb 20. He told me it's a pretty easy install, takes about 2 hours. He going to use a 10lb actuator and relays (the actuator can't handle 12V direct) and wire it so the tailgate locks and unlocks with the passenger door instead of the driver's door, if possible. He also has to find the right wires, said no problem. The actuator will be hooked to the lock and not the handle as I thought and if the 10lb isn't strong enough he'll use two tied together and figure how to secure them to the tailgate. Hopefully they will let me take pictures in the shop and give me detailed instructions, I'll see. Told me the cost would be under $200 (labor and parts).

Will update again after I get it installed.

deff a cool mod, if i didnt have a 2000$ one of those id buy one lol.

but i have a tonneau cover that doesnt let the tail gate open when its down, and im also relocating the handle to inside the bed. but deff a cool trick never thought of that. but its really only good if you have stuff that is just to heavy to lift over the top. other wise whats the point.

I can tell you how to do it. You need 1 relay, 1 actuator ( I would assume 15lbs to be safe), about 15-20 feet of red wire 16 gauge should be fine, 3-4 feet (at most) of black wire, spade connectors, and your basic wiring equipment; soldering iron, wire strippers, electrical tape, zip ties, and DC volt meter. I'll check wire colors and let you guys know asap. My guess would be around $30-$50 depending on the actuator.

Here's a breakdown of the cost for this shop. Actuator, relay and wiring $60, labor $40 an hour. They told me about 2 hours, so $140 plus tax. May be alittle more if they use 2 actuators. The reason I wanted this done is my tonneau locks on the inside and I keep it and the tailgate locked all the time. I've gotten lazy and don't want to have to lock and unlock the tailgate with a key or wonder if I locked it. Too bad Nissan didn't already do this for us.

I finally decided to get my front windows tinted today. Really glad I did, looks great. Only 30% due to state laws but pretty much matches the rear windows. Money well spent.

Kudos to gordynismo!

Thanks Arknismo that's what we've been looking for. Great writeup grodynismo. Looks pretty simple but still not sure if I would want to do it myself. I'll print it off and check it out this weekend. Thanks again.

Sorry about the same 4 replies above, not sure what happened.

UPDATE.......REMOTE TAILGATE LOCK INSTALLED

Finally got my remote lock installed today, it works great. A very clean installation took about 3 hours. They used a 20lb Audiovox actuator inline from the right side with 2 relays. The rest was very close to the writeups (instructions) from another Forum (see post from Arknismo above for link). Parts and labor totalled $166.

Any good alarm installer should be able to do this mod. A few told me they would do it for $100 but I trusted this installer to do a better job. It's well worth the money if you lock and unlock your taigate alot.

NissanForums was down for maintenance or something? Last time I checked there was two different step-by-step instructional writeups with pictures. Here's the link.

http://www.nissanforums.com/showthread.php?t=98172

Something the others didn't do or mention, I had a quick disconnect put just under the end of the bed so I can easily disconnect the wiring if I ever need to remove the tailgate.

If you have any questions, I may be able to answer them or get the answer.

More pictures of the install.
