I saw this on The New X and wanted to be sure you folks here saw it.

Recall Notice: Xterras, Titans, and Frontiers
This was likely already posted, but I don't see it in my recent feed, so decided to post anyway. This recall just started a few days ago, so it does not show up on the recalls.gov website. It does show up on the Nissan recalls website:

nissanusa.com/recalls-vin/#/#/Home

SUMMARY

The current Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) rollover-sensing calibration logic could allow for unintended curtain air bag deployment in rare instances occurring under certain unique driving scenarios, usually involving unpaved roads or off-road where one side of the vehicle is higher than the other.

REMEDY

Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Service Campaign to reprogram the ACU in 2004-2014 Titan, 2005-2014 Frontier, and 2005-2014 Xterra vehicles. Nissan authorized dealers will reprogram the ACU with updated software. The ACU reprogramming will improve rollover-sensing calibration to address certain unique driving scenarios, and help prevent unintended rollover curtain air bag deployment, while maintaining the design intent for deployment in rollover crashes. This service, which is conducted at no charge to you for parts and labor, should take approximately two (2) hours to complete. However, your Nissan dealer may require your vehicle for a longer period of time based upon their work schedule.

Please contact your Nissan Dealer with any questions or comments about your Nissan.

Will it remove the W.O.T.??

Seriously, I took my Frontier in today and the dealership could not do the update. They could not get into the software. They said it was a cabling issue. Their expert technician was not available (at Nissan technical training). I'll try again next week.

SOB Nissan......two years ago my 2014Pro4X with 9000 miles on it deployed my side air bags on an even road outside of Phoenix, Az. Two months to repair (Tempe Autoplex Nissan), and i'am still missing a part. Claimed it was my fault, bill was 5500.00...yes that's correct 5500.00. My out of pocket was 1000.00. Never took it off road again....Guess I am just venting, without any recourse....Costumer Service at the above dealer is the worst.....

I got the side air bag notice as well. It doesn't say recall anywhere on the card, just that it is a service campaign. Something else to add to the to do list.

I went through that with the fuel sensor fieasco. Had all my receipts and work was done at the Nissan dealer several times. I didn't get the full amount paid out back, but partial is better than nothing.

Edit: The owner notice sent states if you already had service to the rollover curtain to visit www.NissanAssist.com and download the reimbursement claim form and follow website instructions.

Took my Pro4X to the dealer yesterday, and it took 1 hour. Ask the service rep. if my truck is good to go off road, she said " I don't know "... Would like to thank those that passed on some good advice.

I got the "voluntary service campaign" P7318 taken care of today at the Nissan dealer. It only took an hour, plus they changed my oil and rotated the tires. Nice folks.

Me too. Although the dealer paperwork says Recall P7318 (perhaps that's just what the service writer entered). Plus my $7.35 oil change.

Uodate: I called my local dealer today and they said they have a Stop/Hold on the repair until they have a permanent fix. it has been 7 months since they issued the service campaign notice. Really hoping they get this fixed before our child is born in March. Not putting a newborn back there with the risk of an airbag deploying involuntarily.

Interesting. I wonder if I'll get called back again for the "permanent" fix.

I sold my Pro 4X and will never ever look back. A 4X4 truck that one can not take off the road because of the fear of the side curtain air bags deploying Again and having to fork out $4K to have repaired because Nissan will not admit they F.CKED up! Have a 2014 Toyota FJ with a Toyota installed airbag by-pass.

air bags

well I can personally vouch for this issue. day before yesterday it snowed down here...I was slowly creeping through a friends field to get to some downed fence line. at the end there was a small ditch I had to go through to get to the fence. i slowly slid into the ditch then gassed it to get up the other side. I was proud of my truck as she bit into the grass, mud, and snow at started crawling out of the other side. just before I came out of the ditch there was a bump and boom....both side airbags deployed....omfg......really.....first time I take her off road and this happened

currently at dealership to see if they'll fix it....service advisory said he'd never heard of this issue and i should file with my insurance.
I told him he should contact Nissan corporate

ps. thanks for posts like these guys. I would've never known this was a factory issue if it wasn't for you
