On my 08, manual trans the read diff was allowed to run low. A known issue when I bought this truck. The rear end does howl and the gears show signs of excessive wear and some heat. When I asked the dealer the cost to repair they quoted a whole rear axle. Gear set/gaskets/seals replacement wasn't an option according to the Service Rep. Does this about normal for dealer effort?
The truck has 259,000 miles and the rear axle assembly was replaced under warranty at around 30k. I am the second owner. According to the original owner was a custom ordered truck. He wanted a Nismo but in 2008 the Nismo wasn't available as a Crew Long Bed so he ordered an SE with a limited slip axle. So I was told. Does the VIN decode what axle this truck was built with? I don't plan to put as many miles on this truck and its normally a commuter. With this many miles is a new axle assembly a strong suggestion or overkill?
Thanks for the input and happy New Year!
