A safe bet would be JL audio subs, They have very nice sounding 8" and 10" subs

for the amp, I would personally go with a 3 channel unit and power you whole system.

the front two channels can power your interior speakers and the mono channel for your sub.

Amps are pretty predictable the more you spend the more you get.
but do your homework and check the internet. I have saved alot of money shopping around.
Just make sure its a reputable site.

JL is good, but for the price I would look at Elemental Designs http://www.edesignaudio.com/us.php

In general the cost vs quality rule is correct. However, I have found that with eD this is not the case. In my Titan I used a full eD system and let me tell you, their NINe.1 amp is a monster. In my Frontier I have a single 11KV2 sub powered by JL 250/1. Two sets eDi 6000s comps powered by a NINe.4. Take a look at their stuff. Very reasonable in price and customer service is top notch. Ben Milne is the owner and is a wealth of info. FYI all their stuff has a three year warranty.

Nice choice on the HU. Mine is coming in later this week exactly like that. I would have liked waiting for the usb port, but I didnt want to. Besides I can plug my laptop or ipod up to it through the aux input and listen to movies through it. Now I just need to figure out a place to mount an amp

anyone of you guys that just installed the Kenwood DD. I need a bit of help. I got it in no prob, but I cant get the dash to go on if I have the trim ring on.. and if I leave the trim off it doesnt look right. Did yall have to hack it up to make it fit or was I too tired when I did it and overlook something?

another brand of subs you could look at is Image Dynamics. They are main SQ (soud quality) woofers but can get pretty loud. They are excelent in small encloures. I'm thinking of going with the 10" IDQ. Check it out here http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/tech_page.php?name=IDQ10D2 V.2&type=sub&id=idq

Also Arc Audio makes some good subs as well. I think a member on here had them. Drevlo or Drev??

OK GUYS FOUND A SOLUTION! Take the oversized GM trim ring and put it on. It sets back farther and doesnt hit the dash. Then guestimate where you will need to cut. I cut approx. 1/4 inch off the top... 1/3 off the bottom.. and 1/2 off both sides. Don't hold me to those cuz those are just guesses. You can look at it on there, and draw a line to guess. Then take a dremel and cut it off. It clears the dash so all you have to do is cut enough off so that you dont hit the vents or top, etc. Now it fits and looks like its meant to be there  . I can take pics if I didnt describe it well enough.

Here is my quote on labor and install, do these seem like reasonable charges or am I getting hosed somewhere?

I've decided on this for a nice clean sounding system:

Kenwood CD HU
$140 for component, $17 dash kit, $13 antenna router, $13 mounting bracket, 0 install
Phoenix Gold Amp (4 channel, 250w)
$0 for component (already own), $55 Amp Board (under front driver's seat), $55 install
Infinity Reference 6.5 Separates (Fronts)
$200 for component, $120 install
Exclipse Point Source 6.5 Coaxles (Rears)
$0 for component (already own), $70 install (additional $13 to include x-overs)
Additional Fees:
$45 for 4 guage firewall install
$45 for orignal factory amplified system bypass
$36 for shop parts

Total $810, this is a low dollar estimate that the salesman gave me because I already have most of the wiring needed for the single amp system (power wires, rcas, etc.). However, if my wiring is short, then I have to pay extra by the foot. So potentiall I could end up with a $850 bill.

My concern is that they'll do the install and start adding a bunch of additional charges to get an extra $100 or so out of me. Any suggestions on how to make sure you're not getting ripped off by your installer?

If my installer removes the front driver seat, will any electrical warning lights go on and stay on? That's a question the actual installer asked me. I'm a little concerned about their competence now, they should know those sorts of things.
