2012 Pro-4x / 97k: had to stop on a decent uphill slope. When the light turned green I gave her gas and she wouldn’t move. I could feel the truck try to move but it was like something was locked up. Did it again a couple minutes later on the same hill, same scenario. Is the tranny on its way out? What should I check? All oils were replaced only 7k ago

Thanks for the humbling moment. I checked it with the engine off and it was way high. Then checked again with the engine running and it is low. Guess this is a check done with the engine running.

Are you sure its not the hill assist? The brakes will hold you on a hill to keep you from rolling back until enough acceleration is applied then it releases. Mine is not always consistent, sometimes it holds it harder than others.

It could be, I don’t know what “activates” to keep the vehicle from rolling back. After topping off the oil, I tried to replicate it but it acted fine

When you let off the brakes after coming to a complete stop the vehicle keeps the brakes engaged until you apply enough gas to break it loose. I find that mine is inconsistent sometimes and i will need more gas than other times to overcome the brakes.

The trans fluid should be checked with engine running, trans in park or neutral and up to operating temp (there is a lot of fluid in there so thermal expansion matters).

Too high is very bad for auto trans also! Don’t go over the max mark.

How are you guys checking trans fluid? I think my tube has a thing that is bolted down, is there a stick in there or do you need to buy one?

Did a complete fluid change with Valvoline MaxLife ATF. Took almost all of the 1gal container.

There is a dip stick already in the tube.

Complete change is close to 11 litres (3 gallons). Drain and fill is only changing around 1/3 of the total capacity.
