Hey folks, sorry if this is the wrong section but...

I've a Yeti Cooler, a bike, etc... I opted for the utili-track system on my brand new frontier assuming there would still be one or two static/permanent tie downs built into the frame of the truck. I assumed I would use that permanent tie down to lock my yeti, bike, and so on into the truck so nobody could steal it.

How are you all with utili-track doing that? If at all? Have alternative recommendations?

I actually installed the OEM rope hooks in addition to my P4's util-track so there would be something to lock/cable stuff to. It still isn't to secure for anything of value overnight, as ultimately they can be unscrewed with tools, but it eliminates the casual theft opportunity.

Yeah. I'm trying to find a system to leave my Yeti in the bed while I'm at concerts, football games, etc.

Cable lock, fished through the gap between tailgate and bed, behind the bumper, locked to the safety chain loop on the hitch.

I have a roll up cover on my truck, out of sight out of mind for most things.

I secure my bike with a locking fork mount and then I also added two eye bolts so I can run a U lock through my bike if I need to leave it unattended for more than a minute.

If you use Unistrut spring nuts your options are endless.

By using two eye bolts, when the U lock is through them a person cannot unscrew the eyebolts.

Is it not possible to undo the fork lock, loosen the eye bolts and slide to the end of the track? If anything can be moved to the end of the track it can be stolen, and that's the concern I have unless there is a way to lock the end of the track closed. That's what I'd really like to find is some locking track stops

The fork lock possibly, but the eye bolts only turn about an 1/8th of a turn with the u lock in that's why there are two and the eyes are threaded deep to the back of the track, so they really aren't going to slide. But, yes, if a person really wanted my bike (keep in mind the front wheel is locked in the cab) they could get it, but, as the saying goes, keeps the honest folks honest.

I've parked many times in a parking lot where people had their bikes either simply strapped to a hitch rack or "locked" with a cheap cable lock, so thieves being opportunistic, are usually going to pass on mine and go for one they can just lift off and go. You don't have to be faster than the bear, just faster than someone else.

I have considered drilling a hole in the end of the Utilitrack rail for a padlock to lock items in the track.

Good set of bolt cutters and a hacksaw will probably get them what they want. Might at least be a deterrent...

Geekmyride a padlock would work, that's how I lock my garage (chain through the track). Someone willing to cut a bolt is already prepared to take your stuff anyway, I'd just be concerned with someone randomly wanting to walk away with my stuff. Only other thing you can do is lock the bed with a hard cover.

If they are bringing tools, they are getting your stuff. Locks just slow them down or send them to the other target that is an easier pick. At some point they will just steal the whole truck. Or damage the truck getting what they are after.

One of my favorite ones was the Rolls Royce that the owner used 2 chains and 2 padlocks to lock it between 2 palm trees. Went on vacation. When he got back the car was turned around, still locked up and the chains and locks were still around the trees. Note inside went something like "If we really wanted it we would have taken it". The point being that if you overdo it you can make it a challenge. They don't care about actually getting your stuff, they are after the challenge you set up for them. OR they think that with that much security that it must be worth more then that easier mark parked next to you, even if it isn't.

Not if you thread the bolt all the way in to the back of the rail first. Have you used unistrut hardware? the eyebolt threads in to the spring nut behind all the way through to the back of the track If you simply loosen the nut on the outside that doesn't get you anywhere. You cannot loosen the eye bolts from the spring nut because the U lock goes through BOTH eyes. Preventing you from rotating either eye bolt more than about 1/8th of a turn.

I didn't think about pushing the bolt all the way to the back, I'll have to try that. I picked up some superstrut nuts but I haven't played with them yet.
