Okay folks it is time for another group buy poll. The folks at Richmond Gear are saying that a Powertrax locker for the C200K is being evaluated and if we do nothing there might be one available in the next 6-9 months.

But they've also indicated that a single order for 50 pieces could expedite the process. If there was a distributor that was interested in this market they could make the purchase and become the "sole provider" of the Powertrax for the C200K. Apparently there is a $200 estimate fee that an interested party could pay to have them evaluate the application and create an estimate. From there the interested party would need to place an initial order of at least 50 units.

These units usually sell for about $350, but for an order of 50 units the amortization of one time charges may be higher and these could be more expensive then if we waited. So basically the option is to wait until their product comes to market and pay retail, or pool some resources and get the product sooner rather then later, but possibly pay a premium for the parts.

I'm not sure that we could get 50 people to commit to this, but it's worth a shot. I'd definitely buy one today if it was available.

Give them 50 orders guaranteed and pay MORE? I don't think so. It doesn't sound like they really want to make these.
You have to understand that the order for 50 would be treated as a custom order. When they eventually go to market (and btw there is no guarantee that will happen in 9 months) they will produce much more then 50 at a time and they will be delivered to their resellers across the country.

So the option is to wait for them to bring the product to market as a standard offering, or pay them to make something custom for us.

Truth be told they may turn out cheaper, there is no way to know for sure until they do an estimate. The point is that for $200 they will immediately perform an evaluation and provide an estimate. That estimate will be for the number of units we buy, and the minimum is 50 units.

This is our chance to influence the aftermarket. Group buys are a powerful way to get suppliers to make product for us. We can create the sense of urgency that puts our application a head of others and there may be a price associated with bumping to the head of the line.

tell them to get on some gears for the 200 as well so i don't have to swap my rear axle
I'm praying superior makes some gears for the C200 in the future...but I'm not holding my breath. I guess for now I'll have to get 3.36 gears from a junked fronty C200 or a nissan vendor and swap in a titan M205 w/ 3.36 :(

this locker will be a welcome addition tho if it actually materializes.

For all the nay-sayers...
At the end of the day, an m226 swap with aftermarket locker might easily cost you $2000+ (axle, Detroit locker, locker installation labor, abs, etc..)... So spending a little extra on top of the retail price of a Powertrax locker, to make sure we get it sooner, is relatively insignificant... especially considering it's still going to be cheaper than a Detroit locker or TrueTrac alone. I don't see why there would be a fuss about the *possibility* that you might have to spend a tiny bit more over the retail price.

Also, we have no way of knowing if this locker will even be available within 9 months time. Look at how long ARB has beaten around the bush on making a locker for us. IMO, this group buy would be a great way to expedite the development of this product and would be a lot better than waiting indefinitely. Thank you, bigdog, for contacting Richmond and organizing things for this potential group buy.

we've got 19 total buyers so far. There must be others out there with the C200 that would like this mod.

Hey guys, Richmond recently posted on their Facebook page. They want to know:

- "What ratio gears are you guys looking for?"

Can we get some input from those interested? I'll post it on their page or you guys can...whatever works best.
