I have a 2002 2wd 4 banger and my power steering works turning right but doesn't turning left. I have jacked the front up and turned lock to lock seeing if it was air but no luck. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance
Assuming the fluid level is full, I would rule out a pump or hose issue, as the pump is going to operate the same regardless of which direction the steering is turned. I would check the steering linkage to make sure nothing is bent nor binding, just to be on the safe side. I would be inclined to think there is an internal valving problem with the power steering box, but I would check the lower steering shaft for any binding. There was a recall on these shafts (I just had mine replaced this year under recall) for binding issues, so it would be worth checking and also check to make sure there is not an open recall for your vehicle. Just contact Nissan with your VIN # and they can tell you. If the shaft and everything else checks out ok, I would replace the steering box. For more info on the recall, refer NTB10-138b, which you can download from here:
Thanks for the info. This has been about to drive me nuts. And I'm assuming you're referring to the lower shaft that connects at the linkage to the gear box?
