Hi, I am really hoping someone might help figure this out. My truck intermittently loses power while driving, never while idling. When this happens i can get power back by stopping and restarting the truck or - this is the strange part - I just shift from drive to neutral and back to drive. When I do this power comes back immediately and the truck runs great again. This might happen between 1-6x driving to work 18 miles on the freeway. It happens only when driving. So far I have replaced the fuel filter, the cam sensor, the mass air flow and the speed control on the transmission. This has been going on for several years. I sure hopes someone can help figure this out.

This is just a shot in the dark but I had a similar problem with an old Chrysler many years ago. The car would go twelve miles and shut down or loose power. Pull over to the side of the road and turn it off and restart and it was good for another 12 miles. Turned out to be the ignition coil. You might want to try a replacement to see if that helps. Also, check wiring powering you ignition for resistance or heat which could cause this problem. Otherwise, I would start checking the fuel system. My experience with fuel pumps is that they usually have 'hard starting' issues rather than intermittent power loss when they are near the end but that's something else to look at if the coil doesn't help.

intermittent power loss

Thanks for your comment. I will check out the coil. The part that keeps bugging me is --why does putting the gear shift in neutral and then back to drive restore power???? To me it seems like some sort of sensor that is reset when I shift to neutral and then back to drive.
