im getting my system together and i see alot of guys using these. I plan on doing 3-8"s. Any input on these subs??

#4 ·
im going to run them in parallel @ 2ohms

#5 ·
3 of those sub in parallel is 1.33ohms.

could run 2 in series for 8ohms then parallel those 2 with the third at 4ohms for a total of 2.67ohms

alright, you lost me, how do hook that up, this whole ohm thing confuses me

here this might help

if ohms are confusing you, you may want to consult a professional. you ave to match the ohms of the subs to the ohms the amp can provide. 4ohm subs can be run off a standard 4ohm amp. when you run 2 4ohm subs you can run them either 8ohms, 2ohms, or 4ohms(only if you run each on its own ch.) if you wire them together you can run only 2ohm or 8ohm. toss in a 3rd sub and you go from 8/2 ohms to 12/1.34ohms. you could run 4 of them and run them as 2 sets of 2 ohms and then together again as 4ohms or even 1 ohm. here is a link that will help. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp

thanks sqnismo, that diagram makes it easy to follow, i appreciate it

#10 ·
and your going to need a amp that will do 500w RMS @ 2ohm.

#11 ·
yeah i have that sub, it really sounds good for what it is... two should be more than sufficient behind the rear seat, you can run that setup in 8ohm or 2ohm(<-- my recommendation) would you like to see a suggestion or two for an amp?

#12 ·
sure, what do you suggest??

#13 ·
i use a kenwood two channel amp bridged into one channel, here's a bigger one that'll push the two pretty hard when unbridged simply running 4ohm on each channel. the RMS on th 8" is 125w with a peak of 500w. this amp claims 175w rms with 500 peak per channel, but SQnismo says it won't be that high, so it'd work pretty good, i'd guess probably 150w rms per channel and anything under 500w pioneer says the sub will take so it'd work pretty good...

i'll look later and see if i can find any others in different brands...

what do you think of the pioneer premier ice series 1000, this way i keep everything pioneer. it rates at 600w@2ohms, but obviously ill turn the gain down

#15 ·
waaaayyyy too much power. never rely on the gain to protect subs. if you don't believe me, look up msubullyfan's threads, he posted one a while back about a guy who did exactly that and blew up a lot of stuff.

here's a pioneer in the ball park:

#16 ·
so are you going to do 2 or 3 of the subs??

#17 ·
looked and looked and looked, might be able to find another choice that'd match good but i couldn't, both of those are good options at a decent price, everything else cost an arm and a leg or was way too powerful

the ones i showed you above were for a 2 sub setup btw...

im going to do 3 subs. i thought i should run 2 in series for 8ohms then parallel those 2 with the third at 4ohms for a total of 2.67ohms? your sayin just run all 3 in parallel??

yeah with the first amp... the second one doesn't have enough power, should work ok, just hook the positive from the amp to the first sub's positive, then the neg to the next sub's positive, then the neg from that sub to the last sub's positive, then the neg from that one to the amp's neg... make sense?:p:wtf:

if you want that particular amp( premire ice 1000) then yes, its able to be run as low as 1ohm. if your geting another amp that is only able to be run as low as 2ohm then follow my picture diagram and run it at 2.67ohms.

actually no, that would series all the subs for a total of 12 ohms. what he needs to do is series two of the subs then parallel the third. (see my previous diagram)

#22 ·
i gotcha, i think im gonna go with the ice 1000 and ill run the subs in parallel like you said. Thanx for all the input on this matter

#23 ·
ignore my comment, as brandon said... i was too tired last night, should have logged off long before my comment:p my apologies lol

#25 ·
yea, im tryin to figure out the dimensions, the only way ill get the 3 subs w/ the correct airspace is to mount the amp under the seat and designate behind the rear seats for just the box

Why has no one pointed out that one of these subs (the one in the middle) will put out twice as much as the other two? Yuck. I can't imagine the weird sound reproduction you'd get from that setup if you had all 3 subs sharing the same airspace. Having them share airspace is iffy in the base case -- with the subs moving at different velocities, it could create some "interesting" unintended effects.

Wire them in parallel and get an amp that's 1-ohm stable.
