My head unit really vibrates in the metra face plate so I am wondering if I missed a step on the install. I first attached the pioneer to the truck and then clicked the metra unit in place. The head unit is not attached to the metra face plate, only sits in there. even with the trim ring it still vibrates on the highway. i was going to use some double sided tape but just wanted to make sure I didn't miss a bracket or something.

I just did an install on mine yesterday. If I did it correct, the head unit gets attached to the Metra cover by way of the plastic side adapters that snap on to the face plate

u have a DIN or DD pioneer?

DIN size you use the plastic clips screwed to the radio then slide it into the metra kit.

DD size use the stock metal brackets to attach the radio then the DD trim ring gets attached to the inside of the part you had to remove with the HVAC controls.

Single or double DIN you can use the factory brackets. If single you can choose if you want it high or low. Either way the factory brackets bolt right up and provide the most secure mount for your aftermarket HU.

I started out using an all plastic mounting 'kit' where the HU slid in and 'clicked' in place. I hated it because it was flimsy and any thief could quickly un-click it and slide it out - then slide it in to their car. The metal factory brackets at least make it difficult to steal AND are strong.

For the trim ring, the way our radio and HVAC facade is designed makes it hard to put in. I went without it, but if I wanted to put it in I would need to shave some of it off around the sides. The attached pic is without the trim ring.

I could not figure out how to use the original metal bracket when I did the install, but this was my first time doing a raido install. I'll take it apart some time this week an try again, will you be able to post any Pics. thanks

I do not believe this to be true for the '09. The factory brackets do not work with the Metra dash kit. I had to use the Metra brackets for everything to come together.

@argos59 During your install you should have attached the HU, along with the AC controls, to the Metra bracket before installing it in the vehicle.

A tip I would like to share is to cover your gear shifter and surrounding plastic with a large towel. I ended up putting a scratch on my gear shifter without knowing it, probably when I was trying to either disconnect or reconnect all the harnesses.
