Here are some pictures from a trip I took with my parents to explore some ghost towns in the central part of western Nevada. We had 7 towns on our wish list but only had time to visit 3 today. There are all old mining towns. I can try to provide some history for anyone genuinely interested, but otherwise just enjoy the pics. :)

Silver **** was our first stop and by far my favorite of the three. The trip started off on the right foot when we had a sighting of bighorn sheep. I have lived in Nevada for 15 years and have never had the opportunity to see these guys in the wild, so this was really exciting for me. :)

Our next stop was an old town called Marietta. There are currently some inhabitants so the town is an odd mix of old mining town ruins and double wide trailers. The trail passes through the Marietta Wild Burro Range.

Some cool sand dunes on the way out:

Our last stop was Belleville:

Belleville is the site of a neat old mill:

Definitely planning another trip to try to see some of the stuff we missed. This part of Nevada is really neat.

I've also only been west once. Cool trip when you see cool stuff like this and add animals as a bonus. Thx for pics.

I was curious in the timing of these towns. Approximate build year and approximate abandon year?

Great pics and brings back memories of NV ghost town trecks with my Father In Law. We lived in Carson City and got out quite a bit. We went to Treasure City on Fathers Day 1978. It is east of Austin on Hwy 50, literally in mid no where. Houston Oil an Mineral had razed a portion of it. Elevation was 10,000 feet. Very cold in June. Little stone miner shanties were all that remained.

^ cool info thanks. My mind immediately thinks of 1850s and gold, but I forget people mined other stuff. Neat trip.
